My favorite case, in response to Carroll, would be that of Jordan Hubbard: when the open source FreeBSD morphed into Apple's (open source) Darwin, Jordan followed along. I don't know what Jobs is paying Hubbard, but I would venture that JH could probably afford a Lexus....
As of this post it's still up. I'm thinking though that it is the bandwdth issue, and not the capabilities of the OS or server, that would be the limiting factor. What are the connectivity specs?

It may be a matter of semantics, but doesn't "Platform Independant" most often refer to -- in Microsoft's own literature -- hardware platforms and not software platforms? It's quite obvious they want to support data access (and services access) across many hardware platforms -- but don't they also want some version of their own OS on all these platforms?
Yep. Talk about whipping a dead horse...I predict that in a year the fallout from several of these (at that time) failed lawsuits will have us looking back at these dweebs with abject pity. What's the current count now for these luddite lawsuits? All it will take is for one of the big ones in the pipeline to fail miserably, I think, then we can clear the air(waves) of all of them.
I live in Iowa, and I received my three first choices in two days (rq'd on a Friday morning, got them Monday) so mail-time isn't an issue. Careful of those mailers though -- as has been noted they don't send packaging (only the DVD in a Tyvek sleeve) and the envelope is one of those combined-convertible ones where you have to carefully peel off the outer cover to reveal the return envelope. Careful there...
Well, even if turnaround isn't as immediate on many releases (as another poster said) still, they have selections you won't find anywhere but Amazon.com -- most rental places (Blockbuster especially) do not carry unrated or NC-17 DVDs as a policy and let's not even talk about the Indie and foreign releases, which are my specialty interest. I can deal with a minor inconvenience.
The only better deal for me is the public library...
...what kind of 'backbone' these so-called executives really have....
Technically speaking, the earth eclipses the sun every night...
Neato! I just love seeing oppressive commu-capitalist oligarchies improve their efficiency through technology!

they send it. I mean, just proof it, y'know? Someone want to let them know about that?
cogito, ergo dumb.
