    You got the concept of "intellectual property" as natural. I am arguing that it's artificial. Would Leonardo stop working if intellectual property concept not exists? He never heard of it!
    Creation of art is usually self-rewarding,
    all other rewards must not be mandatory.

    Nope! I am thinking that they should not expect from profiting from IP on their development. If they have a buyer for their program - that's it. If they create a program that they hope to force people to pay for that program - this is the situation I think is better to be avoided.

    If you get your money from selling IP - then I'll be happy if you'll get that you deserved. Welcome to teaching, cattle feeding, heavy-equipment driving, even creation of software drivers for refridgerator door - get your money for doing REAL work. But not for artifical lawyer-inflicted burden named "intellectual property".

    Yes I do. I am currently switching from DSL to Dial-up at home, DSL is not worth it if you are not playing games.
    I was able to work just plain good on 56K and even 28k.
    I also use Konqueror ability to kick down pop-ups and
    alias ad.doubleclick.net to 127.0.0.1...

    Put traffic shaper on them - let them use equivalent of 28800 modem. Just enough for browsing the web and work but lousy for file sharing...

    2) People customized their installations a lot and afraid that automatic upgrade may create a mess on their machines...

    1. I agree. But a lot of slightly stupid users don't. They can download that drivers for example from sunsite.unc.edu or other places like that.

    2. Oopsie?! I mean GPL! You cannot relicense GPL-containing code for Info-ZIP (and any other) license!
    So your (2.) is unapplicable in this case.

    3. Mangling a binary-only driver is a much harder job than to mangle source.

    Moreover, they sell *hardware* i.e. they should encourage
    to provide as much
    interoperability as they can get.
    BUT!
    Imagine this:
    A Coward took their code, makes insuitable changes
    (for example add code that add random distortion to
    scanned/printed images) and put his binaries and code
    without providing his name to famous download places.
    Unsuspecting People will get a lot of spoiled binaries instead,
    install it and blame printer supplier for bad quality.
    How to avoid it?

    It's a stable and tested technology.
    For my project I stuck with apache 1.3.x

    I use custom kernels when I need to incorporate non-mainstream patches , such as http://www.solucorp.qc.ca (vserver) and rsbac(www.rsbac.de).

    The only thing that we know about them - is that they send
    us 1-photon thick ray. It's entirely possible that we are enclosed in some sphere made as a large planetarium and the stars are just small sphere holes...
    The diameter of sphere can be 1 light year or even less...

    What about radiation - if you are somewhere in Ural, may be.
    Actually Russia has one of largest reservoirs of clear fresh water - in Baikal.
    But in most large cities water is contaminated by old pipes.
