um, dude, you can have HFS+ and UFS partitions on disk. I've done it. I had my iBook running HFS+ and two UFS partitions for months before I decided I didn't need the HFS+ and went full UFS with Jaguar. I don't know if maybe the software RAID screws up with mixed partitions, but hey, I don't have an Xserve to play with:-( [though 10.1 server is good for a lot on the iBook]
yes, but what if they had paid for all the extra bandwith? I think they might not have been touched then. (though they could have been told to cut it out in the future).
yes, but note that netbsd/sparc for the sun4m does not work for smp. they even state it. now, if they could get it up for that, i'd love it for my sparcstation 10(hell, i'll have a good reason to get that extra 50MHz mbus card). any idea why sun4m doesn't have smp yet?
Well, yes, it is possible. Besides, it only took 3 months or so to port Openstep to PPC. besides, many of the drivers could be taken from Free or Open or Net BSD. maybe Linux, but not linux.(apple isn't too too fond of the gpl. they still have their lawyers combing over it.) I wouldn't be supprised, though I would like to see this for Sparc(sun4cmu) first;-) by the way, anyone know what the status is on Display Ghostscript?(not the X version, the NeXT-like one)
Don't forget that HP killed PA-RISC when they went to do Itanium. The Alpha is very cool. It really doesn't need to be killed off, and HP saw this. Besides, Itanium is lame, it has bad press behind it, and is is also a sitting duck. So, the best to the Alpha, since it seems that HP may want to get off the Intel Bandwagon.
As one who has used Gnome, KDE, clasic and new mac os, most flavors of windows, and more, I still have to say that mac os x is the best. it's not the fastest, but it is intuitive. Maybe if someone would keep the interface the same, or more acuratly, document expectations and figure out where grandma would look for something, then we would have a better gui.
Yea, I think Many like the Chinese and respect them, but really dislike the commie government there. Were they socialist, or even more capitalist, we would like them more. This is all
And what about 36 bit? from what I remember, the vax(yes, old, but still 36 bit) could handle a max of 64 Gb. why not transition to 36 bit for the desktop and let 64bit wait in the server wing?
