Real punk ethics are for lazy white kids too pampered and drug addled to get a job, the kind of people who go from the suburbs to the homeless shelters.
True. I love to hear middle class kids complaining about how horrible their lives are. I'm especially amused when I see "punk rockers" here at college, which is most likely an endeavor financed by their "oppressive" horrible capitalist parents. Yeah. And all this anti-capitalism stuff that the kids buy into? Isn't somebody making a whole lot of money from the propaganda t-shirts the kids are buying? Hardly seems like "anarchy" or whatever they promote, to me!
The Sex Pistols were years ahead of their time, though, in trying to market punk rock as a fashion trend. That's something that's really only begun to be exploited within the past few years.
While $99 may still be more affordable than Microsoft's OSes, it now can't compete with Linux or any of the variety of BSD's in the area of price, especially when it comes to "hobbyist" users, for whom that $99 may be a big deal.
Maybe MS "stole" the GUI concept (yeah, i'm aware of how the whole story goes) from Apple. Are they trying to take the hip rainbow-colored sticker idea, now?
When this story was posted over at MacSlash, somebody replied with a tip of their own, which I've found to be quite nifty.
What it involves is logging out, then logging back in as user ">console", with no password. You might have to select "Other User" or whatever that option is called, on the login screen. That'll allow you to skip Aqua, and just have a nice full-screen terminal to work with, instead.
Okay. I'll admit, this will make many things MUCH easier. But, from a security standpoint, not to mention just for the benefit of preventing you from doing anything REALLY stupid, isn't the setup currently in place a better idea?
But, hey...even if they were "only" CDR and not CDRW...still not a total loss. Can't you still record data in another "session" on a CDR? Of course, it's not like that matters. They aren't either one.:(

Adium already does this. If you're using OS X, give Adium a try. I'm very impressed with it, so far.

Forget sudo and enable root access
