Sounds like in the Marines Corp, recently many command related exchanges ended with "You know what, you go there yourself"
Remembering all those inscriptions on airplanes, tanks, bombs etc, I don't really want to imagine what we'll being seeing written (or worse, drawn), on those robots.
Then, hmm, "Uuhhh, danger, lets send in the robot". Where have all Gung ho's gone?
Also the battle situation for all those teenage marines will become more realistic. They'll be given a screen, a joystick, and they need to shoot down all the other moving dots on the screen. Less training needed, no more x weeks of Pendleton.
When it comes to the RFP, I hope they added as requirement the emitters you wear when facing the robot. Sending out the signal "f-r-i-e-n-d-l-y". Afgans , I imagine, will be rather keen to get some of those.
Seriously, lets try to see things in a positive manner - it documents the will of generals not to waste young lifes - hopefully on both sides.
Here in Luxembourg you have currently 2 choices:
- Popcorn cinema, à la Superman or Pirates of the caribean dead man's chest (and yes its still a good reason to get out and have a lough with 300 people around you)
- Serbo croatian/south african cinema telling somewhat always telling a terrible story w/o really telling a story. I think they aim to trigger depressions, they don't like you to feel good.
Yes, you don't get a lot of good scripts. And I think it is true it has something to do with the industrialization of the movie business all over the world. A definite law is a soon as you seek to meet the taste of the masses (pre-screening etc), you end up with crap anyway. Don't expect that kind of industry to swing around and suddenly start to take risks - there's too much money in projects like that. You'd do the same if you had all your money put into it.
But there is hope. My experience is that there is always a place in the world where some maniacs get the few bucks/continue their way of telling stories to do their movie and bring out a "Lock Stock and 2 smoking barrels", "Amorres peros", "Reservoir dogs", "Habla con ella", "Nueves reinas" etc etc. Then there's the sundance film festival that continues to support independent film making in the US and usually a tag from that festival is usually nearly a garantee for good creative filmmaking.
I think the key is as very often the public funding of filmschools and small projects. I think there are also major film companies that have their sidekick independent label. Anyway, its all about cultivating the seeds for the future, about being ready to inject money into a creative process not necessarily producing a result. Also rivalling film industries need to continue to exist. A few world spanning film production companies would be as usual bad for creativity.
And finally it depends where you live, whether there is an independent cinema owner around.
So if you don't stick too much to Hollywood, you can still have nice surprises. And of course if you wait for Jerry Bruckheimer to produce a film because its an interesting story... errr... I think its time to go to the bookshop;-)
Have a nice Sunday,

I remember times sitting behind a PC and wondering how the hell I am going to fill up the 20Mb of my smart card harddisk just plugged into my XT.
Hell, I got them filled up eventually;-) - so don't you worry.
I'd say there is an increased risk of world propaganda with the net, also taking in account that there are now for the first time world spanning media companies like CNN, which hasnt been there before. I think it might come down to information globalisation, there are no distributed reactions, it risks pretty much to strive either all one way or the other. Saying that by default we hate each other more is a bit too much stereotypist for my taste.
Hmm, I don't agree on this "would be a great move", I think as pointed out in this thread already they plainly would run into the hardware support issues any other x86 based OS is confronted too - see OS/2, BeOS etc etc. And no member of the Mac community will swap their hardware for x86 based devices. So I think they are pretty wise in keeping their neat set of hardware and OS'es apart and try to continue and fight their way..... I think its a religion thing anyway, I can't understand it.
Have a good one,

Shouldn't he be busy building cars? ... asked the Tesla shareholder.
Sounds like this computer company back in the 80s where the founder got fired by the board.
