Yes, which is why the Republicans are obviously better. They just think they know better than we common folk in everything else they do.

Right, which is why, at their roots, Democrats want more government intervention in your lives where as Republicans want smaller government. Sorry, pal, but the D's are the ones who don't think you can get by without government.

And better than the ruling population of other countries

Huh....I assume this is yet another slam on Iraq, where the "ruling population" was kindly killing and torturing its own people....

No, really I look forward to our new Obamessiah overlord, where we have unconditional talks with America's enemies and won't have to worry about pesky things like an Israeli state too much longer, and where a quick withdrawal from Iraq will leave incredible civil destabilization and undo the years of progress that our troops, whom the D. leadership claim to care so much about, have made.

You're the one who said it would be racist. You can't then turn around and criticize me for this idea.

You're right, I did say the use of the phrase was (rightfully) racist, with my point being that the use of "typical white person" is also racism. Preconceived notions and stereotyping someone as "typical" (whatever that means), based on the color of their skin, as far as I know, is definitive of racism. You're the one that classified only one as racism based on its negative connotation. And as I pointed out later, his use of the phrase was in fact derogatory, meaning she had deeply entrenched ideas of people different than her. I'm sorry, but there are a lot of white people I know who are capable of looking past a person's color when making judgments.

But she is a typical white person who, uh, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know there's a reaction that's been been bred into our experiences that don't go away and that sometimes come out in the wrong way and that's just the nature of race in our society. We have to break through it...

Let me translate: A "typical white person" will react to a non-white person on the street because that's how they're raised. That's before he had to backpedal on the comment, but before, he was pretty much saying the "typical white person" is racist.

    Yeah, that's not derogatory.

Huh, interesting....I don't have an idea of what a typical white or black person is. You apparently have an idea of a typical black person, and in your own words, "brings up a negative stereotype".

So now I'm confused....which party is the one consisting of racists?

My grandmother is a typical white woman. It's just the facts, not derogatory in any way. Really? Because I'm pretty sure that calling someone a "typical black person" would be called, oh, I don't know....racist. And rightfully so. But, of course, racism, like tolerance, is a one-way street.

100+ lead in delegates isn't that narrow. Ah, but you have to remember that that number includes super-delegates who've publicly stated their support of Obama. They have up until the vote is cast in Denver in August to change their mind. A lot *could* happen between then and now, though I'm thoroughly convinced that BHO could reveal he has 50 bodies he personally killed in his basement, and it won't change the minds of the people.

Do you mind sharing which statements Red Hat made that "suggest that they feel no obligation to honor patents (at least patents held by companies they don't like)"? Because, if I'm not mistaken, Red Hat is the same company that pissed off a bunch of people because they took patents so seriously as to remove software that would cause potential patent problems (mp3 ring a bell?). Please don't confuse Red Hat's refusal to cave to empty saber rattling by Microsoft as a suggestion that they feel no obligation to honor patents. I think history will show differently.

I'm 31 years old and still love it!

I tried to buy it when I was in high school, but they had discontinued it then. My first copy was a tape I made from a Blockbuster rental :)

Several years after graduating from college, I was in a Blockbuster and they had the VHS tape on sale for $8. I bought it as a birthday present to myself. I was *shocked* it had the most memorable quote, as it been removed when it was released on tape originally.

Recently as I was finishing up my Transformers Seasons 1-4 DVD collection, I decided to go ahead and order the movie on DVD as well.

I can't count the number of times I've watched it (it *always* gets watched on a day missed from work for illness!).

In spite of its *many* flaws, it's still my favorite movie of all time!

I believe in the death of Jesus on the Cross for our sins and I believe He was resurrected on the third day. I believe that a belief in that is the only way to Heaven, and more importantly, a real relationship with God.

I believe that while other religions focus on what man has to do to bring themselves to God, Christianity is the only Way, in that it shows what God did to bring us back to Him.

I believe that there is such a thing as absolute morals, and what God said 4000 years ago is still applicable today.

No, I can't prove it. That's why it's faith, and that's why Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Having said that, Lee Strobel's The Case for Christ makes very convincing arguments.

Not to be argumentative, but I think a couple of things below need to be cleared up:

    * Updates. Usually there are no updates to the stable distribution except for security fixes. This is *very* good when you actually have to maintain your systems.

I think you're saying that Debian only updates their packages except when it's a security update. AFAIK, Red Hat is very conservative about the updates they release and only release for security/bug fixes also. Unless you're running Rawhide....

    * Updates. "apt-get update; apt-get upgrade", and voila you have a list of security updates available - and you're about to install them. No subscriptions, no fees, no wondering where to get them from. It just works.

Not only is there apt for rpms, but there's an even better utility called yum (yellow dog updater, modified). Yum makes it incredibly easy to set up your own software repository, making it easy to keep your machines updated. Not only are apt and yum available, but Red Hat recently announced support for yum and apt repositories in up2date, therefore eliminating the subscriptions and fees previously associated with up2date. Thank you very much, however, for not comparing rpm to apt!

    * Simpler package dependencies - it is actually possible to configure a web server without installing GNOME (ok, this particular setup is *probably* still possible in RedHat) - in general you will find that for dedicated servers, you end up with a 100-200 Meg system where the RH system it is replacing was well over a gig.

I know that Red Hat provides a server installation and allows you to custom select groups of packages you want installed. I'm not sure if it can fit inside a 200MB footprint, though, but I'm pretty sure it'll fit inside of a gig....
