    No, they're acts of war - acts that justify a declaration of war against us by Iraq's allies (crickets chirp here). This doesn't require that we actually declare war (we haven't).

    All that would happen (God forbid) if anyone tried to blow up a tunnel would be to cripple the traffic in Manhattan (which pretty bad as is) but it would take a lot of explosives to actually destroy a tunnel from within if it's a tube.

    Screw the tunnel - just take out the roadbed. Let's see all those tards in H2s try and negotiate a 2 foot crater - comedy gold!

    I mean, "Grey's Anatomy" might be all well and good for a network show, but put it up against "Rescue Me" on FX or "Deadwood" on HBO and it's revealed for the lame-brained homogenized crap that it is.

    Of course, if they went pay only, then they wouldn't have to do that stupid cocktease thing every time they have to deal with nudity and just show it. Nothing disrupts a show more than being reminded that a fight scene or a shooting is A-OK, but boobs are right out.

    Bottom line, I rely on commercials to tell me what shit is, it's much less humiliating than having the girlfriend walk into the bathroom while I'm exfoliating my face with Maxipads.

    Well, as soon as you take something to the register in a store (in the US), it's too late for them to refuse to take US dollars (the notion of debt gets complicated -- of course, the store can refuse the sale on other grounds, so it's a somewhat moot point). However, if you buy beer at the stadium and *insist* on paying in Liberty Fakedollars, you'll probably spend the night in jail.

    I doubt it. They can demand payment in any form they like. At the stadium, they can either take the liberty dollar so long as you don't represent it as a US dollar or they can refuse. It's only illegal if you claim that the liberty dollar is US currency.

    I'm not sure whether a bank can legally loan you something other than dollars at interest, or pay intrest on holdings other than dollars. I'm certain they can't do so on the fractional reserve they need to operate.

    They can do it on foreign currency, so why not private currency? I woul imagine the reserve of theirs is covered by banking regs, though.

    That's not really true. You can't make anything that would be confused with US currency. You can't pay taxes with anything but US dollars. And you can't try to force someone to accept your private currency as payment.

    All that means is that you can't make counterfeit bucks and that you can't force your currency as payment. You can't even do that with SU dollars, unless it's a debt.

    The most obvious answer is almost always the right answer.

    And the GP is right - Jetfuel burns at around 550C on up to 800C if properly contained, so it can't melt steel, nor could that explain how the WTC fell in its own foundation at nearly freefall speeds, or why the debris is more consistent with demolition than damage. The most obvious answer leaves too many questions open.

    For example language A had one word for all shades of green, so speakers of language A had a difficult time noticing that two objects of two different shades of green were in fact not the exact same color, where speakers of language B had no such difficulty.

    Whereas, speakers of language C, who had no word for green, were able to distinguish shades of green, but each shade had its own word, specific to the thing that had that color.

    Because the first sentence ends in a verb, and the second sentence doesn't. It's basically a split infinitive, but the second half is missing.

    Split infinitives are ok in english. The second sentence is awkward, but the meaning is clear; it's about what I'd expect from a Japanese person speaking english.

    Well, for it to matter, you need to make over 120k combined, at which point the difference is about $1k in taxes until you hit 150k. Basically, you need to be both working well paying jobs before it makes a difference. If I married someone making what I make, we'd pay an extra $2k/year, but that isn't much - it's the difference between getting my porsche in 2 years and getting it in 3.

    No it isn't. Gays want equal protection under the law, and I can't see a reason to deny it. The secular institution of marriage can be defined as two people just fine. I don't care if you want to ban gays from marrying in your church - that's your choice.

    In Japanese, if you ignore the kanji (semi-symbolic alphabet) and focus on the kana (the two different phonetic alphabets - katakana and hiragana), each word is spelled exactly how it sounds.

    Quick, how do you pronounce Yokosuka?

    The closer two spouses are in income, the worse it gets. Rather than getting the advantage of sharing the tax burden, you've taken two smaller incomes and combined them into a large income in a higher tax bracket.

    You must be doing pretty well - the 28% tax bracket tops out at $180k combined.
