    Well, that's what happens when you skimp on the safety. Of course, if the shuttle breaks down in LEO, you can't very well pull over and call a tow truck.

    What is "poor"? Half the world's population lives on less than $2/day. Such poverty is extremely rare in this country. If you are better off than half the world's population, you are NOT poor.

    Yes you are. If you live in a place where $2/day is common, then you probably pay about $10/mo in rent and can eat very well for $3, or at least live on $1.50. Just because some people in another country are worse off doesn't make our poor any more affluent. You may as well trot out the starving kids in China.

    If you want to travel with your howitzer, you have to buy extra seats for it. Those things are heavy.

    What if the ping is good and the server on the box is down?

    Well, obviously you need more diagnostics. Ping is just a good way to test total nonfunctionality.

    Sometimes you need more checks then ping.

    And ping (on the local network) is usually a good indication of when a box is totally non-responsive. Of course, icmp should be throttled/blocked at the border router.

    Upon inspection, you believe that they just took your C code and rewrote it in C#. Do *you* sue?

    Given the similarities in the language, it's entirely possible that the data structures and program flow had been retained, so copyright infringement would be much easier to demonstrate. As it stands, we have no details, beyond similar functionality which, by itself, shouldn't be enough to show infringement.

    How does this differ from the Ma Bell situation with telephones? Seems to me that refusing to sell the set top boxes should be illegal under the same line of reasoning.

    Yes. Microwaves operate at 700-1000W, while WiFi tops out at 250mW.

    That's from the electronics. RF chips are not 100% efficient.

    If the signal was too strong (such as if you setup a strong amp), it could potentially boil you.. but it would have to be a really strong signal.

    Say, around 800W should do the trick. 250mW will never boil you, period. That's like standing 4 feet from a 60W bulb.

    It should be fine to have around with kids as long as they don't put it in their mouths.

    Yeah, my netgear card is small enough to swallow.

    he's now stuck with a student loan debt of over 200k (interest has piled up), and he's having a hell of a time getting to a salary level that will support him paying off his loans and supporting a family.

    It's not that bad - once you pay the original principle + 50%, the student loan is repaid, period. Unless you refinanced it without that clause.

    This is not correct. Despite this, financial advisors repeat this like a mantra.

    It's partially correct. By leaving a bunch of available credit around (unused credit cards), you increase your accessible credit. When deciding whether to extend credit to you, creditors usually look at this number. Old credit cards that you never closed => larger amount of available credit (that you don't use) => lower amount of credit that you do use.
