For example, a homophobic deed towards a gay man is sentenced harder than the same act towards a straight man, due to gay rights political pressure.
No, committing violence against someone because they belong to some class (gay, black, woman) is punished more harshly because it's historically been a tool of oppression. As a white guy, I can still beat a black man bloody and get a normal sentence if it's shown that I had a reason other than his skin (for instance, if he cheated at cards)
Don't be ridiculous - this is Chicago. The only people allowed to carry are cops, who never ever beat up a bartender because they're drunk and having a bad day.
you're kidding, right? MS is only in the position they're in because they can threaten OEMs with a loss if the MS discount if they break exclusivity. Ballmer is just pissed because he can't use the same tactics, and can't make a decent phone either.
No, you take this to an international court, and failing that you settle disputes between nations the time honored way, war.
International courts have no power to compel a given country to do anything at all. I'm not really sure what you think this will solve, or even why they'd go to the trouble for a CP website.
What happens when the guy on the spot edits the docs not because they contain a mistake or are unclear, but because his understanding of them is imperfect?
The doc owner sees the edit, notices the error, and reverts it.
I never said that the stuff was easily or even fully documented. I'm just saying that some places will try and replace you with someone else because they're cheaper, which would be fine if they didn't also kick you out the door. Thankfully, I've managed to avoid such places thus far.
It's also possible that once you document what you do, management will attempt to replace you with someone cheaper. This has no bearing on whether they actually can - some people just don't value competence and view you as a large expense.
"Guessing" that the student did something to warrant an arrest when we have the complaint in front of us (and making no mention of such behavior) is downright bizarre.
I 'guess' you should go read the whole complaint. From what I read, she got what was coming to her.
After all, they have thousands of other people they can choose from. They don't need you.
This is true for new grads. Not so much for experienced, competent people - there are handfuls of available, suitable applicants, and they do need you.
I've recently decided to ignore all of the 'experience required' aspects of the job posting. I've seen my own position go up with a '12 years experience in xyz' after I left the position (and I was only working for 5 years)
Good plan. The next step is to get ahold if hiring managers at places you want to work - if you're going to get rejected, it should be by someone who counts, not some HR flack who doesn't know the difference between BSD and Unix.
Seconded on the colo idea - set up 20 of your boxes in a leased rack and try to offer them as xen virt servers, then add in more hardware as you fill up the existing capacity.
He's only been here a month - we still have a UK implementing 1984, ridiculous zero tolerance policies in our schools, and fascists at all levels of government. We're doing better, but Orwell is still right.
you're using up a lot of other people's time and eventually they'll have next to no profit margin but can't give up the contract because so much time has been invested already. Whilst this is going on, the company has to take the focus away from looking for new contracts to work with them.
This is called the sunk costs fallacy; if you're being jerked around by some customer, your best bet is to fire them and go look at other contracts. It's also handy to specialize a bit so your costs for the bid are spread across a number of clients.
Working conditions improved because workers shut down factories and generally made it cheaper to be reasonable than deal with them. We still called in the army and had strikebreakers that killed workers. Imagine how things would be in China, where they have no trouble killing subjects and practice 1984 style information control - one strike in a factory doesn't help the next factory if nobody hears about it.
Request 1 is probably unreasonable as parody is a protected usage of a trademark. Imagine if I couldn't use a MS trademark when making a parody of one of their ads. Wouldn't work at all.
You mean like sales guys? I'm a dev, but if I do something that impacts the company out of proportion to my salary (those million dollar ideas), give me 10%. It's easier than me starting a company to build some new thing into a money maker.

Not to beat an old drum, but MS is a convicted monopolist. The rules are different for them due to their disproportionate market influence.

Has it stopped many? The point is that cameras don't necessarily do any good, they just make some people feel good.
By not allowing anything that competes with Apple's own software. That means: no better web browser, no better email program, no better calendar, etc.
That's a valid complaint, but it's apple's toy and besides, Ballmer doesn't have a better product, anyway.

Thankfully I'm not important enough to be a target.
Bullshit. You don't get attacked for being important, you get attacked because you're there.

Did you get to call the guy a moron? I'm really curious, as I haven't met these people who think machines work with no power.

how about automating common tasks to the point that a lot of them are simple one line commands?
It's also possible that once you document what you do, management will attempt to replace you with someone cheaper. This has no bearing on whether they actually can - some people just don't value competence and view you as a large expense.
They could.. oh, I don't know, just ignore her?
Let one kid get away with it and pretty soon you have 20. What's wrong with demanding order in a classroom?

Guess you didn't get the memo - Dubya is out of office, and Obama don't roll like that.
The alternatives are paying more and training your workers. You come out ahead, but it requires more capital investment.

Excluding the stone-cold-homo-economicus types
