    or those tiny scrollbar knobs you get when looking at long documents. or the nonsense in the startup bar. or the horizontal scrolling in file dialogs (don't even get me started on Windows Explorer) or the whole uninstallation shtick. or the fact that you don't have control over certain icons on the desktop

    Maybe they did it because they misread all the idiot posters who felt that it would delay the project, etc. I don't know. But I will say that they solicited feedback and I gave them feedback-that it smelled bad. And I hope others do likewise. Look, mozilla is the first commercial app that turned opened source and there are some roadblocks that need to be fixed and mistakes to learn from. But they have to try harder to do the right thing

    yeah it's under the GPL which means it can't be used in commercial software (such as html editors)

    well if you like what they're doing it makes sense to support them with your money. Then they'll be able to support the things you care about (like paying people to work on gnome,etc)

    but you weren't part of the battle. The battle is about how linux will look like to the outside world. It will look like kde. But that doesn't mean gnome isn't cool

    I guess this means kde should be the standard gui for all linux mainstream apps (but people will always have the _choice_ to use gnome). Having one standard gui is very important for alot of people coming into linux who demand consistency.

    Sometimes I get the impression that alot of the people knocking this off probably don't even use ICQ or AOL IM (oh no! both owned by AOL!) In fact I get the impression that some would just as soon return to the gopher days with no graphics on websites. (oh no! I can't have that kind of bloat on my 350 mhz PII with 64 megs and 10 gig hd!!!)
    I think this is a cool idea-it's not essential to the mozilla project but it certainly won't kill it either. So please, ignore the luddites. This is a killer feature-being able to integrate ICQ, AOL IM and irc

    right-it's more interesting to fix bugs that might have been overlooked than to point out "whoa my scrollbar is flickering" But it's getting there...hopefully by July 20 beta things will start to pick up again

    and then they'd complain that it was bloated and not standards-compliant and not embeddable in other apps. We'd then have to wait until version 6.0 before we get what we really want from the browser. So they're doing things the right way -not the fast and easy way that gets you no friends in the end.

    linux advocates are having it both ways when they say linux is easy to use;has kde or gnome as a gui and then when it comes to actually test linux, you take away the gui. I want to see linux benchmarks _with_ kde/gnome on top of x on top of linux. I want to see linux uptimes _with_ kde/gnome. And if you say linux runs well on a 486 then that's another test to try.     Well, mozilla will be included in HotDog, Homesite, Neoplanet, doczilla and quite a few other applications. That proves mozilla is very modular. On the other hand, I don't think we'll see mnemonic is any commercial web-based app. If mnemonic is the only alternative to IE then people will prefer MS' license over the GPL

    We are getting contributions-it's just that it's coming from the commercial non-linux side. For example you have the active-x control which allows mozilla to be embedded in many apps. There's doczilla, neoplanet, Allaire wants gecko in homesite, etc
