No, that kind of mentality multiplied by millions of others is why we're in this situation. I don't care if we "lose" this vote in 2012, we as citizens needs to stick to our guns and vote how we feel instead of "choosing the lesser of two evils". I refused to be corralled into that anymore.

As for you Obama comments - sure, it's our fault. I'll take that responsibility. But I'm changing my voting behaviors as a result. What are you doing? We've still got a Dem/Rep congress that's behind a lot of the mess as well. It's not just Obama either.

Shut up and vote 3rd party if you don't like it. That's what I'm doing after voting mostly Dem the past 8+ years. I suggest everyone else do it as well. If we lose, fuck it, nothing new, but maybe we gain numbers and maybe gain traction.

As much as I rooted for Obama and his change it honestly feels like Bush v2.0. That seems to be the common sentiment here on Slashdot as well. So why both with Dem or Rep anymore? They don't represent my interests anymore.

My knee-jerk reaction is to just cancel my account and be pissed. Afterall - it's a pretty large increase percentage-wise. However, when I really think about it - they've just been too cheap for a while. As long as they don't start pulling a move like the cable companies did and slap advertising on top of a paid service I think I'm okay with this. Compared to the volume of movies I watch now vs. the cost of getting them from a brick and mortar rental place I'm saving hundreds a month.

Regarding your question about bearings conducting heat - I was wondering the same question. I wonder if there's a way to make bearings specifically for this application with heat transfer in mind while still providing decent performance.

Well asking for that is a bit of a catch 22. It's kind of like trying to be President of the USA and be an atheist. It's not that it can't happen, it's that the majority of people wont allow it to happen (or at least hasn't). A mental health professional who could make such a claim is likely to not be in the profession much longer.

However, I did come across a report somewhere a while back that did make such a claim. I wish I could recall the specifics or find a link for you to support that.

But when you really get down to it - is faith any different than believing in any other supernatural item? An adult who earnestly still believes in Santa is pretty much in the same boat. At least that was my thoughts on the idea of faith after I learned Santa wasn't real. If that could be fabricated on such a large scale - why not anything else?

Mind you - I'm not saying there is or isn't any higher being or whatnot. But I'm certainly in no position to claim any factual knowledge of the existence or lack thereof of such a being.

Personally - I wouldn't even bother with the text dumps and whatnot. Just cut it off completely. If you need wiki or whatnot then catch it when you're at work. If it's important enough you'll find yourself at the library or coffee shop anyway.

I've been slowly cutting myself off from a lot of things like that (cable tv, WoW, Starcraft, Facebook, etc) and I find I just fill the voids with other things. I'm currently playing my PS2 more than I have in ages. Not all bad though because my attention span for that is much shorter than the other options (such as hanging out on slashdot). I find I've been hanging out with friends more in person, talking more to my family, and in general just getting more shit done. I've also picked up some more hobbies on the way.

For me I think the next step is getting away from this smartphone craze. Hell, just for the cost it's not worth it. $40/mo extra to do 5% comfortably of what I can do on a laptop? After that I may consider dropping internet but it is a pretty handy tool. Perhaps I'll just wire it to a desktop so I lose some convenience of it to discourage me from using it everywhere in the house.

While some people on here are quick to shun those of us for trying to shed such things - I say fuck 'em, rock on, and good luck. You'll probably enjoy the change.

Apparently this was how it always had been and the guys liked it for the extra income. They couldn't see for every two employees they've got on that schedule they could just hire someone else for 2/3s the cost and probably get better performance. Given the nature of the market now and the rise in popularity of "microtransactions" is it unreasonable to think paying $5 for a new save file to be successful? What if the initial game was $25? What if the first save file allowed that single player to play back to prior save points without ruining progress? (such as used in Dirge of Cerberus).

I don't think it's too out of the question IF they lower the price of the initial software and allow some fairly decent movement within that purchase. Compare this to buying WoW software - you still have a monthly fee to pay for access and millions are okay with that route.

That doesn't mean that's the direction *I* want things to go in, but the model could actually work and could feasibly benefit both the gamer (lower prices) and the developer (more income due to the new volume of income from used sales). But only if they're smart about it and not downright abusive.
