This is what I was coming here to post as well. Many non-savvy people are going to use what they're comfortable with from work. However, IE is shoved down the throats of most in the corporate world due to a lot of things being built for IE only that we have to use that has limited features outside of that software (outlook web access, for example). On the bright side - at least IE is stepping up their game a bit these days, though at this time I prefer Chrome and Opera, personally.
"You think that Dell doesn't just absolutely love it when they discontinue manufacturing on a particular laptop model and their once-device-only charge plugs become unavailable, forcing you to buy a new laptop if you ever want to see power again?"
I don't know what all you're basing this statement on but Dell's been one of the most consistent with their power supply connectors in my experience. At least 7-10 years without changing it to something incompatible.
SAME FUCKING THING I was wondering. I don't have 32k to piss away in lawsuits. That's insanity given the scale of the "offense". Wtf is wrong with people?
However, since we're using anecdotal evidence - most of the women I know who play games typically stick with the likes of farmville, angry birds, and WoW.
While I semi-agree...a part of me thinks we should probably start admitting we're just getting old and haven't done our jobs in passing the torch down to the younger generations. Alienating some poor lad isn't going to help them on their epic quest./diplomacy.
"Unfortunately, we are reasonably good at telling you what disease you have and much worse at telling you anything useful on how to treat it."
I think even if there are no treatment options, if a neurologist can figure out what's going on at least this person will know what they're up against. It's often easier to face a demon that has a name, in my limited experience.
I'm certainly no doctor but if everything else appears to be in working order I'd imagine the brain would be the best place to be looking at this stage as well. Also, the symptoms appear to fit w/ the "transient ischemic attacks" which put me on a tangent thought of wondering how effective crowd-sourcing diagnoses would be. But that's another story for another day.
I suspect I missed the golden hayday of Slashdot so I propose this: Submit stories you feel are in the spirit of the good ol' days. Perhaps even teach someone something.:)
I don't support sociopaths who believe in your little mantra and like to "fuck shit up" just because your twisted logic supports it. There's not even anything remotely close to a "childish" government involved in this story. Wtf, man - are you trolling or something?
Is it safe to presume that higher compression but lower energy in the fuel equates to requiring more fuel to do the same work - thus potentially costing the same/more? Anyone know what the MPG difference is in an all-ethanol engine vs. an all-gasoline engine with the same horsepower output and same engine size?
Shit, I can't figure out if that was a troll or not.
My "meager" $132k house survived 145mph winds back during Hurricane Hugo and just needed new shingles (according to the previous owners).
However, to some degree they're right - you wont see shit for returns on many improvements you make on your home in this market. You could 10 or so years ago though.
But I'm currently fixing my house up and updating/renovating various items, not to appease a future buyer, but to improve the quality and aesthetics of my home for myself and my family. It's all about priorities and plans at a given time.
Anti-virus software is primarily reactive. Proactive is typically called patching (if you catch it in time, though that can become reactive as well).
However, some anti-virus software does have a feature to detect virus-like behavior though it's not 100% successful. Additionally - anti-virus companies (at least Norton) have teams that are essentially white hats who look for new vulnerabilities and methods of virus delivery and obfuscation.
So yeah, I'll colo(u)r you cynical and respectfully disagree.
My concession to you is that I don't know the specifics of each and every anti-virus product, so maybe you've had a bad experience with McAfee, and that's fine - that's life. But in general having anti-virus software is a Good Thing (tm), IMHO.
Additionally - I do agree with the skepticism of the parent "Oh, you're the head of a company that sells remedies to this horrible future?". However, when you work in a specific industry chances are good you'll have opinions within your own industry. Just as Google engineers will have comments on the state of search engines or other technologies related to their fields.
I feel like there should be a statute of limitations on this crap. Obviously this guy made no/little efforts prior to this to enforce his "intellectual" property. It's like waiting until they feel like cashing out that they start these kind of lawsuits.

I heard the audience was a bit stiff. But lots of firm handshakes afterwards.
And thus we run into "guilty before innocent". Fundamental, downright, bullshittery IMO.
But what exactly was burned up? The physical item or the license? Re-read his comparison to losing his car title.
Consider yourself a minority (one I appreciate).

That's what FAQs are for. ;)
"Ayn Rand is a nutcase so quoting her is just going to make you look stupid."
But have you actually read any of her books in its entirety or are you just looking to get flamed?

*sigh*
I support justice.

Fuck you for perpetuating that childish crap. And your little dog too.

It's a nice system...until they go on strike. What a shitty winter that was.

Which...is pretty much the same thing.
This was my first pondering as well. Did the world just adopt the "enemy combatant" strategy?
Holy crap - thank goodness I'm not a coffee drinker or I would have been right there with ya.
Why, Sealand of course!
I think it's time to seek citizenship elsewhere... *sigh*. This is just getting ridiculous.
Well, rather, this has been sustained and increasing ridiculousness for a while but semantics aside...
“Anybody who designs in RAID 5 should be shot."
This runs counter to everything I've been taught - so perhaps you have some real world advice to support this? Merely curious.
