    failsafe? not exactly

if one of the 3 strain gauges goes bad it can still give you a reading that seems reasonable when combined with the other two. they would need to be calibrated periodically to account for wear and fatigue.

I work on tanks with strain gauges that are regularly filled and drained with about 200k lbs of material regularly, and its not uncommon to see it drift by a few thousand pounds in a year due to wear, and this is in a relatively temperature stable environment.

all this technology exists, I work in the weighing industry. you could drop a single (long) scale across the taxiways to gather per wheel weight and accumulate it then beam the total to the plane through a wireless link, wifi, bluetooth. plane wouldn't even have to stop. they do have some smaller ones to weigh cargo.

the problem here is this all needs calculated before they taxi out and take off.

the problem with the strain gauges in the landing gear idea is two fold. temperature extremes, and calibration.

There is a machine shop I do service work for that is using a Toledo dial scale from about 1915, in production, constantly throughout the day. and it woks just as well as it did when it was built, and most people trust it more than the newer electronic scales.

I see a lot of old lab gear also, a lot of people get comfortable with the equipment they use so regularly that they would much rather limp along something that they know well rather than learn something new and better.

NY law prevents lists of lawful gun owners from being public record to protect their safety. the paper would have had to place a request for information on every seperate name on that list to be in compliance with the law, the only people who can see the full list are the DA and whomever does the licensing.

  10. as americans, it is our civic duty to go out and add as much noise to this useless illegal app as possible. most states (NY included) it is illegal to maintain a list of lawful gun owners. we all need to download this and tag as many places as possible, churches, schools, police stations, whole streets. the more noise the better.
