I don't know about that.. it's legal to download music in Canada. Maybe they mean that the music is illegal and therefore we should not be downloading it?
I do something similar, but I use a simpler matrix:
a - a b - b c - c d - d e - e f - f g - g h - h i - i j - j k - k l - l m - m n - n o - o p - p q - q r - r s - s t - t u - u v - v w - w x - x y - y z - z
So my bank password would map to "bank" and my slashdot password would map to "slashdot".
Microsoft itself will be forced to submit documents to the EU in ISO-approved OpenDocument. Hilariously, Microsoft will have to use OpenOffice.org to do so.
Or they can use another product with a similar codebase, such as KOffice:).
Trouble is no scientist or NASA spokesperson wants to tell the public about his exciting discovery on rock NW2345, when it could be called Van Halen or some other name that would capture public imagination.
Why not name it after something is discovered on it? You might even be able to give it a more meaningful name this way.
Look on the bright side. This should make Civilization a lot more fun. No more worries about Congress stopping my nukes when I have a democratic government.
Are you really telling me that you'd rather see some girls take off their bathing suits instead of setting a up a massively parallel RAID-5 array of 300G SATA-150 disks!?
Indeed! Just imagine all the pr0n you would be able to store on that machine!
If necessary, the players could have two different lasers. Sure, this isn't the ideal solution, but if the demand is there, it might just happen.
We'll just have to wait to see if the demand is actually there for more than one format.
A media-independent content structure would be great, but I have a feeling that it wouldn't be quite as simple as it sounds. Of course, that really isn't my area of expertise.
I'm sure it will be possible. You could even have two lasers, if necessary. I guess it will pan out to whether or not it's worth it. If Blu-ray just slaughters HD-DVD, then manufacturers won't bother supporting HD-DVD. On the other hand, what are the odds that one will slaughter the other? Blu-ray is going to be in PS3 and HD-DVD is apparently in Xbox 360. I wonder if it will get to the point that publishers have to sell both Bluray and HD-DVD version of movies because both formats are so popular.
Like you said, it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I think there's a good possiblity of having a duality, like DVD +/-.

And... no, wait.. I guess that's everything.
I think they did read the entire comment.
(not a troll :)
I somehow just read that as "The Sky is burning the end user is near". I'm going to bed.

Well, duh.. stop reading digg.

*one day passes*
Zonk - "Oh Sh*t! The slashcode server's on fire!"
I'm wondering how durable the 'film screen' is. Can I accidentally rip it, pulling it out of a pocket?
You could always laminate it. This would keep it safe from pesky coffee stains, too.
Funny, but I think you meant Sergeant Schultz--er, Ballmer--instead of Major [Hochstetter].
You, sir, are wrong.
That's because we don't have to listen to Chris Walby anymore.

Exactly my point. What's to stop manufacturers from including support for both standards?
I think I'm going to vote for a third party!
Yeah.. and DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs and DVD-RWs and DVD+RWs.
You're right.. two competing formats out there at the same time will never work.
Well that explains why we no longer have Linux.
I bet half of them are dupes. Try searching for "site:slashdot.org a"
Yeah, I stared at that for five minutes before giving up on it.
Maybe they'll investigate him and then give him a medal :)
