Install Linux at home. It's the best training you'll ever get. And then switch over your best friends and finally your grandparents. You'll be a pro in no time.
I really don't see how gaming would help. The idea is communication and gaming would just cloud that with alterior motives. Not only that but you would also both have to choose "avatars" in the gaming world presenting more complications.
How about writing letters, sending nice postcards, and an occasional phone call. Or even if you must go the technological route a communal blog?
Frankly i don't want more people on my buddy list. I keep it small, so that its only people i talk to regularly.
Its a cool idea, but only for people who need to chat, instead of using im'ing as a method of communication.

fvwm and tvwm are two great window managers espiecally when you're cutting edge gnome/kde/fluxbox/etc... refuses to work, and you just have to get something done graphicly. I know i've fallen back on them more then once. That coupled with the fact that they're so damn small, keeps them on my my small hard drive.
I think its a good idea, only problem is, how will you tax the spammers. Its easy enough to set up dedicated lines and such in smaller countries without restrictive goverments. It seems like true spam rebels would get around this.
But the greater the 5,000 a year is also a very good idea, i just feel bad for the various BDFL's of big open source projects.
Does X10 have encryption?
Espiecally if these things are being used for security cameras.
Or private sex parties either way, i wouldn't want people looking in.
There is no one way to hold a mouse, besides having at least one finger on a button.
How would this accomodate for the many and different ways to hold mice?
backwards, forwards, upsidedown, sidewase, two fingers on the buttons only etc....
maybe now people will instead of type their address write it in ascii code or something like
somebody(at)something.com instead of somebody@something.com to fool the bots.
with all the gator like programs out there and now ms doing this?
makes me like watching all the in and out through my firewall waiting for some unsuspecting program try to contact its higher master.

Well they;re welcome to try, if they like it that much. It'll just be hard to bring up to the standards of modern tv shows.
Although with programs like blender etc.. going oupen source, it might have the nice cgi that a sci-fi flicks requires.
good luck to them.

Linux in order to "corner the market" needs to be completely usable in all major world languages, heck all languages. not just supported but "usable"
more and more componies are banding together nowadays, is this good or bad? maybe they can enact positive change
