  1. Re:Anyone remember De La Croce? on Under Attack by PanIP's Patent Lawyers? · · Score: 1

And stupid me, posting before I complete my research. It was Dela Croce, and a letter on this can be found here from November 1996. -Dennis Carr

  2. Anyone remember De La Torre? on Under Attack by PanIP's Patent Lawyers? · · Score: 1
I note this because he trademarked "Linux", and Linux Journal highlighted the case to an extent. This was back in 1996.

I note this because it's the same thing. Basically, Delatorre (I think that was his name, correct me if I'm wrong) TM'd Linux, demanded royalties, etc - but in the end got his butt kicked. What will probably happen is that PanIP will possibly be countersued. In short, you can legally patent this, but it's like patenting water.

    Just my random thoughts.

Frankly, there are people who are to declare this the mark of the beast. Yet, after having seen various friends have their identities stolen through various means, I would personally not mind biometric identification - hell, the military does it on their ID's. Clearly anonymity is removed, however if somebody asks for your identification, they are asking about who you are.

If it's privacy you want, that's why you have locks on your door or (hopefully) a really obscure password. If it's anonymity you want, change your name.

In tribute of their failing, I will transcribe and change the opening line from the first America Online commercial I actually saw, on TechTV (or whatever it was called) back in 1996:

"A friend of mine told me I should get a set of America Online coasters. 'Why?' I asked. 'I already have a wet bar in my home!'"

I for one am more partial to content over form. The application according to the article here on /. is about policy on Rx drugs, among other things. Why do you need a high-falootin' flash POS to do a policy explanation?!

For a really good model, you can follow the same model as ESR's Jargon File website.

    AOL!!!!!!!!!!

Basically, I concur. My own web page uses stuff that loads fast. The slowest I have is a page (actually, several) of ~50 thumbnails that loads in something of 10-15 seconds on a 28.8 modem. Now, why the HELL would I want to sit for five minutes while some nifty spiffy flash demo loads, when I can just easily pass the important details in good old-fashioned HTML?!

Ah, yes, I miss that day. I used to play MULE on a friend's Atari 800 after school. But now, in my ripe old age of 27, where I still remember cutting my teeth ona TI 99/4a, I wonder: will we see a Linux port of this game? (Of course, if there _is_ one, I might even see it on sourceforge, yesno?) -Dennis Carr
