Hmm, I wonder if I should try to finish my old project: An AES encrypted packet-based bytestream connection between the client and the server, implemented in pure JavaScript (client) and Java (server). With JSON inside the packets. And most importantly: One standing connection. (A single HTTP request that does not time out.) I already did the basic framework. Back then I had already a “network card” and a “network file system” protocol and object. Also compression is built-in into HTTP (with all major servers).
Of course, back then it ate way too much CPU. But nowadays...
This tells more about you than about the topic, that your thoughts revolved around “getting caught“.
Your problem is expressed by this:
My sister caught me jacking off the other week and calls me a pervert
just the other day i walked into my room and caught my sister masturbating
So she calls me a pervert again?!?
there is no justice in the world...
And the real problem below, is that you buy into their reality. A reality with on top of it all is also a double standard.
When I am in my home, am naked, watch porn, or do other...stuff..., the rule is: If you see me, I first get to decide if I like it or not. If not, you are the wrongdoer, and if you do not stop, you’re the pervert. Then when I like it, and you don’t... look away! Damnit, is in that hard?
Interesting fact: If you want to know what the natural reaction to openly visible sex (alone or with others) would be, just look at how people react to dogs or other animals doing it. They are a bit surprised, laugh a bit, are a bit curious, but then just stop caring. In fact it’s so natural, that it’s no problem showing it on TV. And when your grandma sees the dogs doing it, she bursts out in laughter. Now you can see, how twisted our reaction is. And the best thing is, that most people do not even really think in that twisted way. They just act like that as soon as they notice that society expects them to react that way. You can see it in the first blink of an eye.:)
Maybe the problem is also a huge lack in self-confidence is the own sense of reality, even when people know better. I stand by it. Fuck the curtains! ^^
KISS is retarded. Because simplicity does not always equal efficiency. Efficiency equals efficiency. Plain KISS makes you end up with stuff that is too “simple” to be useful, like Clippy, MS Bob, or Notepad. The other extreme is just as stupid, and gives you things like VI and Emacs, with a wall as a learning “curve”.
The optimum is obvious: Balanced in the middle, relative to the user’s needs. More power when he needs it, less complexity when he doesn’t.
I, for one, don’t call anything that does not at least have boolean operations, property fields (like “site:slashdot.org”) and regular expressions a search that fits my needs and level of power.
Are people who want less somehow better? Or why are they preferred? Rhetorical question. I know why they are preferred: Because they are louder, and think they are entitled to get it pre-chewed.
Also, what is the point of allowing only one way? Nobody is better. Add a multiple-choice element, that lets you choose plain text, boolean-enhanced (like google) and full regexps. Makes everyone happy, hurts nobody.
Maybe next time you don’t apply KISS to your method of searching for a solution.:)
That point is based on an illusion. The illusion that the content that ends up in your brain, must be the same that you think it is. In reality this requires every node in-between to be trustworthy. The server that is said to be the source, every non-encrypted server and wire in-between, the computer of the cracker, the cracker, every non-encrypted server and wire between him and Wikileaks, Wikileaks and everyone with the ability to change something, every non-encrypted server and wire between Wikileaks and you, your computer, your screen, and your eyes.;) Or in other words: Every physical object between the source and you. Every device, every software, every person.
Of course perception is reality. Nothing crass, ridiculous or weird about it. Except if you find deep thoughts repulsing.
First of all, try to prove that anything except for yourself even exists. You can’t. Just as you can never determine the “true” state of the universe, because the only stuff you will ever know, is what you perceive. So for all practical purposes, that is your only reality.
Then you can look at it from the angle of the internal model of the world. Humans are generally unable to process things, that do not fit their internal model in any way. If you understand that, you can solve many previously unresolvable conflicts with other people. And since we can not really associate it with anything, we can not really store it. Which is equal to ignoring it. That’s how the brain works. This, and the way the signals are modulated (brain, senses, other people), creates an ultimate filter. A constant bias. (Wich has a point and is so useful, that without it, we would not be able to concentrate on anything.)
So we have a internal model, based on strongly processed external input, which we call “reality”.
Besides: The whole universe is defined relative anyway.:)
Well, the problem would be that you then would also be very hot. And not in the good sense. More in the “spontaneous combustion” sense.;)
But I agree that a way to not use unnecessary calories without an effort would be great. Decadent beyond belief. But great.;)
You already have metabolized it into a storage. That’s your fat. You just never use it up. I once calculated, that if released all at once, the fat in my body would give enough power to run a flux compensator for 0.88 seconds. No shit!
Wait, according to Wikipedia, chemical energy can be transformed to electric energy by a fuel cell. Hmm... intriguing.;) And it can be transformed to electromagnetic radiation (light) by... glowworms! Now that’s an odd one!
So I recommend a glowworm gene therapy and a built-in fuel cell (wetware) in your belly.:)
P.S.: Anyone got better ways of transformation? Those Wikipedia examples are lacking a bit.
Why? It’s the perfect excuse to start a “preventive strike on the war on terror”... Cheney, Putin and Jintao would cum at the moment of hearing it. (Warning: Do NOT attempt to imagine that! I repeat: Do NOT attempt to imagine that!;)
But the knife cuts both ways: Think about pulling that shit on me, and I will pull it on you. Even after jail and death I could get you. I would just have to publicly release the material “showing” your “crimes”. ^^
But it will be a rough world, when everybody has to look out for that all the time... Maybe small communities will make it illegal and punishable by death to photoshop you into something like that.
What? Of course CRTs have motion blur issues. Just because they have no fixed pixel grid, it does not look that bad. I dare you to take any CRT out there, set the background to black and the mouse cursor to white, and then move the cursor around quickly. You will always see shadows of where the mouse was the last couple of times. (No, that is not the mouse trail function.)
Yay, sounds exactly like a CRT, just with a laser instead of an electron beam. But the flickering would obviously still be there. Or if not, the refresh rate would be bad.
I don’t see this becoming a hit with me. I can still use my CRT. That one at least has a flexible resolution... And the colors also still blow any LCD I have seen out of the water. (I have to note, that this is not your average CRT thought. It did cost about $7200 when it was new. I bought it cheap on eBay.)
Google represents access to the internet. So by proxy, it represents Everything. When China had a full buffet of Google, and Yahoo and MSN and Baidu, it could maintain the illusion that people really had access to Everything. If Google takes itself off the table, it will become clear that they don't, and that goes to the heart of the social contract between the Chinese government and its people.
No it doesn’t. You just said the complete opposite in the previous paragraph:
Sure, Chinese businesses might not do as well if they couldn't deal with Google, but dealing with local search leader Baidu, or Microsoft, or Yahoo, that's hardly going to cripple the economy.
Also, do you really believe that the people of China do not know that they live in an oppressive censoring state, and that they do not know that they don’t have access to everything?? Seriously??
Sorry, but what argument should I take from you, if you are contradicting yourself? There’s nothing left to take, but to laugh at you.
And all that is pure interpretation, based on one single Twitter post:
"It's not Google leaving China, it's China leaving the world."
Ridiculous.
P.S.: Don’t dare putting me in a drawer with either Google or China, and modding based on your wrong assumption. I think they are both just results of the same mechanism (gaining power over other[ thing]s), that is a result of natural selection at work. Which makes them “evil” from the outside standpoint, and “good” from the inside standpoint. But really, there are of course no absolutes for good and bad.
Except that access to information is rather the opposite of perfect. Companies prevernt what they can, everybody tries to handle information the way that brings him the biggest advantages, and if it happens that people get the information, they choose to ignore it because “it’s so cheap!” or because ‘Brangelina’ did some irrelevant shit.
Yeah, because Monsanto would be your government (think corporate feudalism).
The free market is another way to say “the law of the jungle”. Which as you know, is quite the opposite of democracy and equality. So which one is it? Democracy or the free market. Cause you can’t have both. Ever.
The law of the jungle means that the strongest one wins. If he is stronger he will grow until he got everything under his control. What do you think how our countries were created in the first place? At least for all European countries it went like this: Strong men became knights, with castles, who then became kings and queens. And those empires then created groups of “noblemen” around them. Some of those were jealous, there was a revolution, and those “noblemen” became what we call the “parliament”.
But the common people also wanted power. So the upper class created the illusion of choice, by letting the people choose, which one of their own gets a seat in the parliament.
Everything still is under control by the same small group. Just that now, the upper levels of companies have become the “noblemen“.
Dude, they have more revolving doors with the government, than Haliburton and Microsoft together! For these cases, Monsanto IS the government. It is the one who defines the requirements. I posted a documentary about this ealier.
I still don’t get why anyone would be so crazy to host anything important on a company’s server. Especially one that is known as the ultimate data kraken.
Aaaand another saying that has never been proven in reality. (No, your anecdotes don’t count.) Maybe you can get the Mythbusters to do it... if you find a way to make it explode. Just like the econo... damn...

...a flatfile with regexps? ;)
One line per entry, index at the beginning.
P.S.: No, I‘m not totally serious... or am I? ;)

Metamoderators: Could you please take this moderator out and whip him with a spoon? Cause this is fuckin’ silly.

If you want to see a documentary, looking at the actual details, and without being as annoying as Michael Moore ;), this one is really nice:
IMO, Haliburton, Microsoft, RIAA/MPAA, and the weapons industry are all freakin’ jokes compared to these guys... :/ (Only Eli Lily might come close.)
Where can I send the money?
How can a trolling moderator be more obvious than with my above comment?? EPIC FAIL.

Oh god, please, no. No movie about it! PLEASE! I beg you! Please god, noooooo...
