The Sonar screensaver for X allows you to set it up to ping other systems on the network. I believe you can make it ping the whole network. The other systems are shows as blips on a radar. The higher the ping, the further away they are, I believe.
We should fight back and use more cryptography. Even if it is somewhat weak, they can't decrypt ALL the encrypted e-mails going over the net, can they?:]
If they don't share tastes with the person who did the edit, then they won't buy it, will they? Nobody's forcing anyone to use only edited copies of stuff. If they want the original version, they can go get that instead. And don't start calling them copies... this is not a copyright issue in any way.
This isn't about whether or not they have the right to do it, it's about Microsoft being a bunch of greedy money grubbing jerkoffs.
Yes, they CAN do that if they want to. SHOULD they? Probably not.
I honestly feel like I am about to cry. I can't believe that a DEMOCRAT would be trying to get this passed. Why the hell must the world be full of freaking hypocrites like Fritz Hollings!? Aren't democrats supposed to be 'the friend of the little guy'!? Aren't democrats the ones who favor people over corporations? I can't take this anymore.
I'll do that. I think I'll mail some of the people deciding on this too. I might even be able to keep myself from sending a flaming mail from the very pits of Hell to Fritz Hollings...
Damnit... I am only 17. I don't want to have to tell my grandkids where I was when Big Brother took office.
It truly makes me sad to see that a few large corporations and some people with a bunch of money can completely screw the majority like this.
I will never obey this law. I don't care if I go to jail for it. This is just wrong, and they know it damn well.
But you can still play games for your 133 mhz PC on your modern PC. You cannot play N64 games on your GameCube.

You can't expect slashdot to post about EVERY civil-liberty-bashing law to pass the senate, can you? There are too many to keep track of already.

wget! My porn retrieval program of choice! :D
The only problem with this is the quality loss. Going straight from the CD to MP3 before has had the benefit that it's a perfect copy.
:]
of course, I can't tell the difference between a 128 kbps mp3 and a 256 kbps mp3, so this doesn't bother me
Look to the people who make heat sinks for Athlons.
