Did you even read any of his other books? They are nothing like The Difference Engine(well a little).
I'd recommend any of these in no order what so ever:
Holy Fire, Zeitgeist and/or Heavy Weather.
Instead of bashing the stupid (or maybe just naive) bank people, why not offer them an open source alternative? If we want safe banking why not make it safe ourselves? Is there a problem (except for sco) with using linux as the OS for an ATM?
If for example software used in piloting ships malfunctions according to international agreements the software makers would be liable for both the damage by the malfunction and any lost business the owners of the ship would suffer. The domestic situations would of course depend on which country it happens in.
But that's the beauty of the X-prize competition that the grandparent post was referring to - it's purely privately funded.
Actually since it requires a big investment this affects me (and everyone else) because the money could have been invested in something else that could change our lives, or at least standard of living.
You don't think you're reading a bit much into the movie. First, why would anyone take up satanism because of the names of characters in a sci-fi movie. Second, why would anyone take up satanism that isn't already a fanatical christian? Those people are already nut jobs so who cares.
