You'd be surprised. Anything....ANYTHING that has to deal with a military vehicle of any sort has strict rules surrounding it about who can see it. Even something as small and insignificant as a bolt for an engine mount cannot be shown/manufactured anywhere but the United States unless you get Defense Department approval first. See ITAR [wikipedia] for more information.

I, too, have one of those and I can't recommend it to anyone.

Windows Mobile seems to like to freeze every now and then so I'll miss calls without knowing it until I try and turn on the screen and see nothing but black. The phone is also HUGE. It's not fun to carry it around in your pocket one bit.

I'm not the only one I know that has one of these or other Windows Mobile phones. Some other people I work with have them and they freeze on them as well.

I test homes for radon gas and have been for the past 3 1/2 years and I'm not glowing yet. While radon can be a problem, you breathe it in all the time. It's just in such a low concentration that it won't hurt you. Here in the US, any concentration at or above 4.0 pCi/L is considered a high amount. At that concentration, there is a 0.007% chance you could get lung cancer if you don't smoke and a 0.062% chance if you do smoke (It looks like they raised these numbers recently). To me, that number seems to be a little low, but that's what the EPA says, so that's what I have to go on.

That reminded me of an english teacher that I had back in high school. If your grammar was ever off she would proclaim that the "grammar mobile" would be coming to your house and that the grammar police would be notified. I hated her back then, but have since realized how much I hate people that don't use correct grammar or correctly spell their or there properly.

Also, the Ctrl key is next to the trackpad. On a laptop, the two button arguement is invalid, as you rarely use the second mouse button, and when you do the Ctrl key is right next the the trackpad, basically making it a second mouse button.

Basically, that 4 ppm (picoCuries/L, as they say) seems to be a really low number here in the US. According to the EPA, if you don't smoke and your house is tested and comes in at 4 pCi/L, then there is a 0.2% chance that you MIGHT get lung cancer. (By the way, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer).

It's not that I don't think that radon is bad (I run a radon inspection business), it's just that I think that the US has way too high of standards when it comes to "acceptable" levels. Europe's standards are a lot better at 10 pCi/L (though if you don't smoke there's still only a 0.4% chance you might get lung cancer), but at least they're being reasonable.

You're right. XP home costs about $200 like the parent said. I know you can get XP home for less from Newegg and such, but that's the OEM pricing. Taking into account that you can't buy Tiger at OEM pricing, this comparison is very fair.

When doing these comparisons, everyone always forgets one BIG cost: Windows.
Windows XP Home: $199 Windows XP Professional (Much closer to OSX): $299
So, now your $1095.00 computer just became $1394. Add in the other little things you forgot such as bluetooth, gigabit ethernet, and case and you've got a machine about on par with the Powermac.

What you said has to be the most insightful comment I've read on this issue in this whole discussion. The fact that you know they're looking to arrest a few hundred people with this law (I'm assuming, because if they [**AA] didn't believe it was a problem, they wouldn't be doing this), puts the grand total up into the millions to keep a few measley file sharers off of their computers for a few years. This will accomplish nothing, though, as I'm sure the governemt and **AA's will learn.

I'm running Hoary RC2 right now, finally got it all installed and working properly last night. Unlike what some people have said, it doesn't properly configure and install everything first boot EVERY time. The audigy drivers were installed correctly, yet no sound was coming out of my speakers. It took some hunting, but I later found out that my Analog/Digital out jack was turned off in alsamixer. Turning that on fixed the problem. Secondly, while the nvidia drivers are available, at least with my GeForce 6800, they aren't loaded and configured properly on initial boot. You only find out when you try to log into Gnome only to find your system freezes up. Nothing an apt-get install nvidia-glx wouldn't fix, though. Ohter thank those two problems Ubuntu seems to be a fairly stable distro. I came over to it from Fedora and must say that I like it a lot more. Using synaptic to manage packages beats downloading rpms and solving dependency problems with Fedora. Though, yum wasn't too bad.
