    Custom software does not always cost more than canned software. With custom software you get the exact functionality you need, tailored to exactly what is needed. With canned software you often get a lot of the features you need out of the box and then integration problems and features you must have, but the canned software does not do. Depending on how badly the canned software API is done or other problems implementing these features it may end of being more work to add these few features and maintain them. And then you have licensing to constantly deal with and other crap to deal with.

    the scale of the US military is just insane,especially in light of the huge social problems like health care the US has right now. Some examples are the US has 11 aircraft carriers and is building at least 2 more that I know of. China has one and it is not even built yet. The F-35 is a fighter with no purpose and no one wants it, but Congress will not let the spending get killed so we are building them anyway instead of helping US Citizens.

    your comment makes no sense. If terrorists wanted to strike somewhere else they would have, the tsa has not been a deterrent. You could say that there are elephants hiding in the airport, but they are so good at it not one has ever found one. Makes about as much sense as your logic.

    at what point when you are rich does savings and investment become detrimental to the country? I think we have already found that point and above a threshold like $1million per year the taxes should at least %40 on capital gains to reflect that.

    I wonder why anyone would even consider this as an option for their business. You completely loose control of a large piece of your critical infrastructure environment and you can never really be sure that microsoft is not going to abuse the data they are maintaining. If anything Amazon EC2 outage has shown is that the cloud is not for anything critical if you depend on uptime for your business model.

    the internet levels this playing field and there is really no barrier other than artificially created by business. So businesses want to move their operations overseas for cheaper labor, but don't want lower prices brought back. True free trade would allow for the differences in prices to normalize.

    doubt that would happen. Top Gear was sued by tesla for pointing out what is common sense (among other inconsistent claims). Having to wait hours to charge a car defeats the whole purpose of having a car, freedom to go where you want when you want.
