It is a conspiracy that commonly occurs. Conspiracies are common and frequently busted. Several people agreeing on lying on things to pursue their own interests form a conspiracy. Not admitting the severity of the accident before the elections was a conspiracy. Conspiracy is not a synonym for "crazy theory", it is a word that has a meaning. A lot of human groups will conspire if given the occasion.
Furthermore, it promises to cut the launch cost of payload from $15k/kilo to $1k/kilo. I call BS.
So do I, or there is more to this spaceship than the "work as a plane the first kilometers" concept. The 10 or 20 kilometers that you can save by using this kind of design is really a small fraction of the distance to cross. It can make you save a few percents of fuel, which is interesting, but divide the price per 15 ? Quit dreaming. It will be 5% and you will be grateful for it !
You basically destroy a local ecosystem by creating a lake where there was none and by disrupting the flow of a river. "Pollution" is not the right word though, you are right. I should rather say "environmental impact"
Given Switzerland's geography, they could go with a lot of hydro power (currently ~50%) and succeed, in my opinion with a higher risk of loss of human life (a lot more people died in hydro accident than nuclear accident), with more pollution, more destruction of ecosystems, but it could probably be done. It is however not doable in every country of the world.
It can't be a honeypot. Really, they have proven that they don't have the knowledge to even think of such an "advanced" concept. For someone who has followed the story a bit, there is no doubt about it : it is crass incompetence.
And if it was a honeypot, accessing data on a webserver is not (yet) forbidden by the law. Which is what they did. With just the IP of the computer, all the files were served on the port 80.
The German pirate party was probably not involved in anything. They host an etherpad service (piratenpad.de) that was working well and provided anonymity. Some attackers probably used it to share data without the PP's knowledge.
Also many sources say that shutting down all servers of the political party was really exaggerated and that there will likely be legal consequences. It might sound like a joke, but Germans are a bit sensitive when seeing the police raid a political party. I think that this accident will, rightfully, help the pirate party.
The social etiquette learned in school has to be unlearned in professional life : the world isn't made of bullies and bosses are not people who know what they are talking about.
Why not ? We followed Reiser's trial because he was a filesystem maintainer. And isn't it interesting that even in these high-level cases, it took so long for authorities to realize there were tech forensics to do ? They have begun to talk about reputation of respective person before analyzing technical evidences, isn't that also interesting ?
joe, nano, even graphical tools like gedit work well (have no phobia of the CLI but the GUI isn't fearsome either). And gedit is an order of magnitude better than Windows's notepad
It is very possible that the savings caused by a simplification of the tax code will cover the small amount of loss.
And, btw, this is assuming that no politician will want to sell this program. Branding a tax raise as a "revolutionary change" is not exactly unheard of.
That can be computed as well. Make the heuristics "change as few things as possible for most bottom lines, and always in a favorable way". You could have a very good reform with very little pain.
No, you can't. There is no graphical device emulated yet. You could compile X though. It would say that there are no screens/graphical devices connected.

Interesting, I never considered the part about speed. Indeed, that is to be taken into account.
I just want to say, that for once, the title was well chosen.
Of course you have the sources for that ?
From what I understand, stuxnet was targeting unrichment facilities, which is very different from what Fukushima is.

Don't you think governments can be evil AND incompetent ?

Well, that's how you call people who want to share culture, knowledge and question the dogma of intellectual property.
Same beast, two heads. It is named intellectual property. And Stallman owns a katana.

involved a repel of the patriot act.

Let them authorize classes through internet during snow days. Then question why it should be different on a sunny day.
To be fair, there are few questions on the elementary level cursus that is unanswered by Google.

Give jails to people who want jails, give freedom to people who want freedom. What is the problem in that ?

Neither. More informations there : http://bellard.org/jslinux/tech.html
Interesting read by the way.

There are people who actually believe that. That is the problem.

That reminds me of the Agence France Presse. Yep, what he calls for is called "journalism". Fact-checking is why you sometimes pay for information.
