I used to have two monitors when they were at 1280x1024. Now at my office there are 27" displays, I put that at 1920x1200, I have two files open simultaneously on a split view (as well as the file-tree on a side panel). My doc is in another workspace, Switching them is as easy as turning my neck (shortkey+compiz). Add to this the ability to put windows "Always on top" (I hear Windows finally got it! Welcome to the 21st century! Still no workspace though) Have been recently given the opportunity to have two 27" and discarded it. I prefer room on my desk to put stacks of papers, notebook, sticky notes. An incredible amount of software development still has to be made on dead trees.
It is untraceable in the sense that you cannot put an ID on the accounts. The intended goal of bitcoin creators was to provide the possibility of a fully virtual anonymous economy. It is just one brick. The idea is that you could very well provide dematerialized goods (software development for instance) in exchange of bitcoins and use that to buy other dematerialized goods or to give to some donations.
It will probably become somehow illegal, but I wonder on what grounds, and it will be technically impossible to shut down. Sure you can shut down exchanges but transactions will still occur.
Am I the only French guy who thought this was about DSK ? The guy has been arrested 24h ago and already thousands of people follow what is happening through twitter and various live blogs.
I would not feel safe with self driving cars on the road...yet.
I, for one, can't wait for it. The current situation scares the hell out of me. We just have a false sense of safety while driving one of the most dangerous vehicle available to the public.
I think that once people will SEE cars that drive by themselves, that react in milliseconds instead of seconds, that have a precise estimate of distances and braking time, no one will ever want to be close to a human-driven car except in destruction derbies.
Anonymous began by revendicating crimes it did not commit (the 'attack' of the scientology servers that DDoSed themselves by hosting a video of Tom Cruise saying how awesome the church was). When will people understand that anything that Anonymous "says" can not be taken seriously ? That is the core of the concept !
What do you think about the fact that counter-piracy forces killed more people than pirates themselves ? Before 2011 it could even be said that more hostages were killed by counter-piracy forces than Somali pirates.
If we want peace on these coast, we need to have a police that really enforces every law. Some Somali pirate groups began as a vigilante group to prevent the dumping of toxic wastes (including nuclear wastes) off their coasts. (it is a little mafia business that is being judged in Italy by the way)
Out of school I had two internships and two "serious" (okay one and half) school projects I could point at to show I could code. Sure, nothing with a lot os users, not a multimillions line of code, but still a piece of useful and working code.
That. And I know that in French "ethical" has a slightly different meaning. It doesn't really mean "judgemental" but "good". It may be the same in Finnish. It would surely explain the reaction.
I recommend looking it up. It is a notion of algorithmics that has useful practical applications even outside the realm of theoretical computer science. It can help you notice quickly which problem just requires more hardware to solve and which problem you should forget about finding the optimal solution.
Except it is the basis on which European Union declared software unpatentable. Another text (I believe it is even in the declaration of rights) lists explicitly "mathematical formulas" as being a common good of humanity and non appropriable. The point is regularly made that algorithms and computer programs are mathematical formulas and therefore not appropriable and outside the scope of patents.
I love Qt creator for that. Functional UI designer a la Visual Basic, generates real cross-platform code (and I mean there is usually zero modification to make a linux/windows version work) and underneath it is real C++ you can modify. Using C or even assembler if you wish.
You know what ?
Release the code, give a liberal licence on your own copyrighted code, mention that the floating point was Walter Bright and that he reserves all rights to it.
Then if someone wants to have a complete open source implementation, they will remove this code and replace it.

I should do a poster with that slogan.

What I hope will happen : that "cloud" will soon become synonym for "pixie dust" or "snake oil" when it comes to computer security.
What should have happened : the same, 5 years ago.

We are not saying the army's clauses are bad. We are saying that they are stronger than wikileak's. I personally think it is ok to be that paranoid.

Banning US banks and institutions from deepening the debt of US toward China would actually be a good idea IMHO.

Add to this that this is the perfect troyan and backdoor vector.

Actually I hope that step 2 will be followed by a lot of uprorar. There is a ban on weapons in space. I wonder how long it will last.
Except the girl that is the author of that maybe ? http://blog.lizdenys.com/about/

Looks interesting, thanks !
Skook!

Now smart people start selling
TSA has to do that by law. I am sure most TSA employees don't like it either. Yes, "grab me more!" could handle you to jail. Do not expect logic.

Yep. Just obey and C&D order sent by the copyright holders. Them not answering to requests makes it fair.
Also, the number of parts were undisclosed so it may be just a very small part.
