    Actually not. You can write a bijection between the two sets so they have the same cardinality. Now if you compare the number of integers to the number of real numbers, you are talking. Or if you compare the number of points on a line or the number of points on a plane.

    Actually it is a z-cam, it doesn't use stereo. The sensor really meaures a distance like a range finder on each pixel of the sensore. Really nice tech that used to be very expensive. That's why so many people are excited about it.

    The kinect Z-sensor works by sending IR flashes and measuring the response time at the pixel level. They work well in the 1.8 to 2.7m. That probably makes it worthless in your case. If you need a bigger range, there are rangefinders that can be useful but that are bigger and more expensive. The best one is this one ( http://www.hizook.com/blog/2009/01/04/velodyne-hdl-64e-laser-rangefinder-lidar-pseudo-disassembled ) it does 1m-80m with down to 1cm of precision. But it is in another price range (last year it was $15,000)

    Because it can be dangerous if you don't know how it works, just like a car.

    Know that if you drink alcohol, you will peak one hour later, and come down at a rate of 0.15 g/L per hour. Know that cannabis decreases reflex and can increase anxiety. Know that physiological effects of tobacco only last for one week when you quit smoking, know that LSD requires very carefully measured quantities and that an excess can damage your brain, know that crack is harder to quit than heroin, which is harder to quit than cocaine (so if you already experienced cocaine expect heroin to be harder to quit).

    Know all that, have a test about that before getting the licence and with that knowledge, manage to be a law-abiding citizen while being a psychotropics user. The fact that it is compatible is hidden by the lack of information from vendors and the lack of education by users.

    Here in France we had a member of parliament hunger-striking to prevent a factory from moving from the place where he was elected (It is really a one-of-a-kind character, this level of dedication is extremely rare here). It worked... for two years. Then the factory moved. It does happen from time to time, but yeah, I find it strange to fight in order to keep a factory somewhere when it is apparently economically non viable.

    I see some possibilities, but all kind of weird :
    - Some country wanted to say "don't fuck with me America, I can fire missiles 35 miles from your coast". Someone like North Korea, China or Iran. Imagine the impact on the population. Except they didn't revendicate it. Maybe in a few days ?
    - Incompetence of the Navy that proceeded to a launch without them being able to say why it was launched. Or even a total misfire.
    - Could this have been a counter-missile ? Part of a test or part of a real interception ?

    All in all, I find the lack of article in mainstream press disturbing. Especially if this is really an ICBM.

    Users of Sony and Apple products deserve it when DRMs explode in their face. They should know better.

    Drug use should be free but should require a license to buy them, just like driving a car. And that would include alcohol and tobacco.

    Well that is what I will do if this happens soon, but I believe that $10,000 for this piece of code is an honest price.

    Sure, I would prefer to give it to the adafruit fund, but they are not opened for donations.

    Also the guy already made a driver for the PS3 eye, he has the skills and the tools to reverse engineers this kind of tools. But I am confident someone else will soon give an implementation.

    It is good if someone is not financially interested, but I don't see any problem in making a donation anyway.

    1) I am a bit selfish and plan on using the kinect for business, (and not in the game business)
    2) I don't live in the US so I am not interested in a US-centric charity
    3) I already give to a local one (Les Restos du Coeur)
    4) There is no way that I will give one cent to a christian group. I shiver at the idea that they provide education without control to poor children.

    There is always a more worthy cause. But if you want a pseudo-moralization of this cause, let's try this : this technology potentially lowers dramatically the cost of a sensor that is highly useful in robotics, which in turn could bring the society of abundance faster, which will solve poverty. Or I could give 10 days of food and wine to a hobo that thinks he is in the street because Americans elected a fascist/communist/muslim president.

    Actually, some serious works seem to indicate that when promotions are randomly distributed, an organization is more efficient than when promotions are distributed by regular managers. So we can now say with scientific proofs that comparing managers to monkeys is actually insulting for the monkeys.

    He want $10,000 to open source it. He probably just need to raise $7000 + the $3000 of adafruit. I don't know what to think about it. On one hand, this is not such a big price to ask, but on the other, the fact that it was done in 3 days seems to indicate that the work was not that big...
    I guess I will donate $50 in 15 days if nothing comes from the OSS community before.

    Actually crowdsourcing isn't perfect but it looks so awesome because it is a way to bypass clueless bosses and a typical hierarchy who thinks that a handful of prejudice is a "science of management".

    Copyright is the opposite of free trade. It's a direct affront to real property rights - an attempt at social engineering by creating non-tangible property under Law. That's a form of socialism, so it's hard to imagine your being a communist for opposing creeping socialism.

    How creating artificial new forms of properties is a form of socialism ? You lost me there...

    I also used to complain a lot about paypal and the ridiculous fees they impose to some transfers and then I compared to what banks offers. It was in 2009. These banks apparently STILL DON'T KNOW THAT INTERNET EXISTS. Paypal may have exaggerated fees, but regular banks have blatant racketing schemes (that you have to sign for 4 years minimum). It is actually that bad and Paypal IS very competitive compared to the usual bank sharks.

    The more I look into this kind of issues, the harder it becomes to not consider them like a bug in the capitalist/free trade system. I am not sure this makes me a communist but hey.. It is hard to think about copyright as something that helps spread and disseminate culture anymore. And this kind of greed-driven move just goes to the opposite of innovation, and possibilities. I thought this economical system was supposed to transform individual greed into overall progress, but the more I look into it, the more broken it appears to me...

    It is not about having a better language, it is about having a language with a larger sales department. Face it : most language use decisions in companies are made by clueless bosses once the salesman from a few proprietary companies have met him. So it will be either Oracle's new and fancy java ("he said it will be really easy to develop, faster than ASM and work cross-platform without any work") or Microsoft C# or a variant for the .Net platform ("they said it is better than Java and they just drag and drop to do GUI, it HAS to be a powerful language")

    I can only see one : I need a way to scrub the blood and bones from my roof. Seriously, if people crash in these suits in a crowded area, the probability that they kill someone else than themselves is small. Actually smaller than with cars that frequently use the same roads as pedestrians.

At this time, when the first contents became available to the net, people thought that finally, all human knowledge would be shared by everyone and that gimmicks such as copyright would soon become useless.
