I get internet cause im stuck in the house...thats another 40$
Instead of being 'stuck in the house', a second job, or school to get a better job, might be in order. And NetZero is only $9.95/month..:) Don't use your apparent insolvency to justify why you think you are entitled to music for free.
USA, 9m/2m via Cox cable, $50. They have a 40G/month cap (up+dn), but I've never noticed any slowdown when(not if) I go over. Like now. Currently, 49.9G for the month of September, just on my main machine.
Available speeds: 15/15 via Cox cable, 20/20 via Verizon FIOS - $70/month 1.5/384k via Verizon DSL - $30
The only thing really different is the internet and availability of information. Previously, we had the TV networks, newspapers and radio. And that was pretty much it. Now, with so many avenues of info, there is a lot to choose from. Sadly, a lot of people only go to those sources which simply reinforce what they already believe.
Artists will form coalitions, collaborations, etc. and pool their resources to get the word out - like a record label, but less concerned with selling plastic discs and more concerned about advertising.
And hire lawyers, and publicists, and ad agencies...etc, etc. Eventually, these non-musicians will branch out and go look for new 'talent' to bring into the fold. Hey look! We just reinvented the RIAA.
Says who? Who decides who gets guns and who doesn't?
You do. If you commit a crime with it (as are these assclowns on the YT video - threatening people with a firearm is a crime), then you voluntarily give your rights away. You can, you know, own a gun without being as asshole with it.
Call me some kind of freak or something, but why the fuck would you want to own a gun?
1. I like target shooting
2. I like to collect finely made items
3. I live way the hell out in the country, and coyotes have been taking some of the smaller livestock
4. I like to and it is legal
5. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away
(These may or may not apply to me personally)
The idiots on Youtube? Bust em. They shouldn't be allowed near a squirtgun. But a firearm in my hands is zero danger to you. You're in more danger from your neighbors car. Unless of course you try to do harm to me and mine.
The US has a much higher murder rate then the UK even though they allow private firearm ownership. Look at the page linked below and compare the US with other countries that have a much more restrictive policy on gun ownership like those in Europe. I know the US doesnt top this list, but it does come a lot higher that other countries with a similar economic and political status.
And without any analysis of those numbers, they are (sort of) useless. How many of those are criminal on criminal? Most, probably.
the system is robust enough to withstand a wide range of operating conditions, including rain or snow
So....magnets placed in the road and sensors in the bus are sensitive enough to compensate for an 8" difference in vertical distance? Riiiight.
Not saying this is totally useless, but test in a northeast winter before you spout off about 'snow'.
Yes, thank you, it was not a dictionary attack, it was a cycle-through-all-characters attack
3 tries per username. Fail, and the account is locked out. Either for 15 minutes, or until an admin unlocks it. Yes, sometimes you have to deal with users who forget their PW, but no brute-force attacks.
I don't see how HP could do any more for Linux than OSX has done for FreeBSD. I doubt very many Mac users even know what FreeBSD is.
Precisely. Users do not care. Windows/Linux/OSX/whatever...they do not care. As long as the UI is relatively easy, it makes no difference.
recently, I had my daughter and her roommate living with us. A couple of 20somethings. I gave them an older VAIO with Ubuntu on it to use. No instruction, no notification, nada. After a few weeks, I asked "how do you like that new operaing system? It's not Windows, ya know" 'Huh, what do you mean?'
They never knew, nor cared, what the underlying susbsystem was. All they saw was a different wallpaper, and slightly different menu location. They found everything they needed to do, and simply got on with it. of course, without a geek (me) setting it up, they would have been lost. No printer, no network, etc.
Linux needs better 3rd party periph hardware integration (camera/WiFi/printer-scanner, etc), better 'applications', and games. Given that, and no one in userland will notice the difference.
This doesn't preclude laws prohibiting spamming in violation of a "do not spam" list. It doesn't preclude laws barring fraudulent or misleading spamming. It also doesn't prohibit private servers from refusing to store or deliver spam.
Telemarketers, bulk mail distributors, and spammers, suck. But deal with them lawfully--there are legal tools available.
Their First Amendment protection is YOUR First Amendment protection.
You have the absolute right to say anything you please. You do not have the right to force me to listen to it. Nor pay for the 'privilege'.
Why is this not seen the same as cellphone spam(telemarketers)?
They cannot legally call, because it would incur a cost to the individual. Given bandwidth caps, each and every spam email takes a bite out of my monthly payment to my ISP.
Anonymous or not, we pay directly out of our pockets to get this crap. And if some 'spam' caused me to go over my monthly cap (slower service or extra payments), someone gets a kneecapping. Followed by a trial.
'unlimited internet is not a universal concept. Many people (Comcast, Cox, etc) have monthly caps. All that spam (filtered or not) counts against your cap.
I have to have a phone thats 40$ a month
...thats another 40$
No you don't. My cell costs less than 1/2 that.

YOU at least have a choice.
So do you.
Before long, someone will blame this on GlobalWarming.
Mention of this split WILL show up in someone's eco-speech.

What's the point of cushionning young eyes from the reality of life?
A lot of what is on the intertubes is not 'reality'. That is the issue he's trying to address.

But I don't think any 1 country should control this resource for exactly reasons like this.
Who, then? The UN? No thanks.

If a company can truly do this, I bet it's been done before. (Waiting for examples.)
East India Company
Needless to say, I think she will make a far better lawyer than half the lawyers in the United States.
So you're saying she'll be an average lawyer?
Yes, I know. I was referring to the original guy who asked the question.
I'd like to see them go back to being run by a "car guy."
A 'car guy' is not necessarily good at running a business.
5 words into that, you lost this guy.

Quite sure.
The vast majority of people never install an OS. Ever.
Fine-grained tools can be thwarted. One change to the method, and it no longer applies.

Even if the sender only pays, you'd still have to pay just to send emails about. I'll take free anyday of the week.
Personal bandwidth cap or no, bytes sent in a spam email isn't 'free'.
You may not see it as a line item on your bill, but it ain't free.
Or... wait a second, you don't pay for email sent from you, do you?
sent email counts against your monthly bandwidth cap. So yeah...people DO pay for outgoing email.

How loud would a rooftop size one of these be?
