  1. Overlooked? on On Counting Website Traffic · · Score: 2

Yes, you're right, but it seems nobody has mentioned what is painfully obvious to me from dealing with my own clients. "What's a server log? Do we have one of those? How much is that?" Most businesspeople (suits) need somebody to translate the tech for them, and whenever there's a translation, there's the opportunity for deceit.

  6. Forgive me for asking ... on Apple Licences Amazon's 1-click Shopping · · Score: 2

... this may be obvious to everyone else, maybe I missed reading /. the day it was first discussed: What's the deal with the one-click patent? Does it just mean you can say 'one click' on your site or does it include the simple act of only clicking once to buy something? If the latter is the case, I'll get up in arms with the rest of you...if the former, then, uh, why all the fuss?
    Thanks...

  7. Once the smoke clears... on Me-Commerce · · Score: 2

I hear you loud and clear. I got my BA in Creative writing, and taught myself HTML as a hobby. Turns out the hobby has become the job, while writing is something I use only once in a while (for profit, that is). But a few years from now I fully expect to be leaving the realm of web design for the role of 'content provider.' Meaning, ok, now all the world is online, you've got a website, why should people come visit you? You need fresh content that changes daily. Enter me. :-)

Change is good...so is knowing you can pay rent and have money left over for food. I guess all we can do is pay attention to the trends and try to adapt.

  13. IAAWD on Copyrights on Web Interfaces · · Score: 3

the real question is whether that is enough credit to give in return for "yoinking" an entire website design.

Speaking as a web designer, I say absolutely NOT. At least have the decency to change the color scheme or something. Some may call it imitation/flattery, I call it disrespectful laziness. If you don't have the talent to create your own 'look and feel' then hire someone who does. Sheesh, if my clients could just steal other people's entire sites for their own then I'd soon be out of a job... then again, most clients would still need help just doing that. Ugh.
