    Oh really, name one treaty the US has not adhered to recently. The ABM treaty? The US withdrew from it accordingly to the treaty's terms.

    CmdrTaco knowingly and falsely insinuated that the Bush Administration and Karl Rove had something to do with this. Instead of saying "I'm sorry", michael just had to insert another bit of gratitutous Bush-bashing for no reason, and just noted that google is just slow to update.

    Michael and the rest of the editors had to be dragged kicking and screaming into this lame and uncontrite retraction because it was so untrue.

    You are not allowed to discuss any charges brought against you. You can be held without council. You can be held indefinately.

    Congratulations, you've just proven that you've never actually read the Patriot Act! The Patriot Act does not provide for indefinite imprisonment of anyone, and does not provide for being held without council.

    Before you scream about civil liberties dying, why don't you actully read what you are complaining about before spouting off nonsense?

    "Sneak and peek" searches have been around for years, and have been ruled constitutional.

    The Patriot Act requires a judge to authorize these searches.

    This PSA is hardly a 'Get out the Vote' commercial. It's a single-minded attack on the Bush Adminstration. I have no problem with this type of juvenile, unfunny material, but the writeup deliberately misleads and deceives on what this is.

    It's not just "highly critical", it's just a minute long blame-Bush screed.

    A better title would have been "Vote out Bush or Don't Bitch".

    The House bill approved Tuesday explicitly permits snooping software built by the FBI (news - web sites) or spy agencies secretly collecting information under a court order or other legal permissions affecting federal departments. There excluded when they have a court order, issued by a judge for cause. They can't just do it willy nilly for kicks.

    You know, cops can also run red lights and speed when they're chasing suspects too. On no! abuse of power!! Sheesh.

    Get real now. Ralph Nader is registering 1 percent in the polls. He is more worthy of being in the debates than these two clowns.

    Hardly anybody knows who Badnarik and Cobb are, why they hell should they be in the major leagues? Maybe if they ran a better campaign, got the names on the ballots, and polled better than 0%, they would be on prime time. As it is, I have no problem excluding any yahoo from the debate just because they think they belong.

    That doesn't change the fact that the officer in question is the sole person responsible for deciding whether or not you're "under suspicion" for some crime...a crime which may be invented after the fact.

    That's sort of police work is done. You ever heard the phrase "tell it to the judge"? That's how your complaint can be rectified. Yea, I'm sure the police are framing people as a matter of policy.

    Unlike what you see in the movies or on TV, the police are law-abiding citizens like almost everybody else. I guess even the police aren't immune from the paranoid, black-helicopter crowd on slashdot. You can laugh your ass off, because you are able to sit behind your comfortable computer knowing there are people putting their lives on the line for ungrateful scumbags like yourself.

    Today the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that anybody can be compelled at any time to identify themselves, if a police officer asks.

    No, that is just not correct. The court held that police, based on reasonable suspicion that a person is involved in criminal activity can compel him to identify themself.

    This ruling doesn't change the fact that police just can't ask to for your name for no reason at all. At least get the facts right in your own damn summary before going off on "your rights".

    This not only to help protect the lives of US and coalition forces, this robot has the potential to save the lives of innocent civilians.

    A big problem with entering buildings, and around corners is that nobody knows whats behind it. If a coalition soldier sees that there are no insurgent force, or confirm that there is one, then it will greatly enhance their fighting capabilities and situational awareness.

    This is exactly why continuing research of defense technologies is needed. It's not to better kill, it's to better save lives.
