Typical comment on problem: "I don't understand why there's still no fix for this. This adapter isn't exactly cheap either. I'm using an Imac 2.93 Ghz with the crapdapter to a 3007wfp Dell 30" LCD and am experiencing the exact problems as everybody else."

My previous generation MacBook Pro worked fine out-of-the-box with my 30" monitor at its native resolution. The new one didn't, I had to spend $100 to get one that "would" (after being sold the wrong adapter by a Mac store genius) and it's STILL screwing up my display periodically.

Its kind of a big deal when the U.S. military can't keep its data secure.

"Having the plans" is not enough. You have to have people able to interpret them and put them into action. Critical elements are often left out of engineering documentation and there's also always that stuff which was figured-out on the shop floor and never written down.

Slashdot's comments are frequently amusing, as armchair experts bolstered by 30 second's worth of Google search know everything. And are smug in their ignorance. They're probably the type that eventually gets into politics for all the wrong reasons.

Crimes could only be prosecuted with solid evidence. One of the points of that was to get rid of unpopular laws because if everyone broke them it would be too much of a hassle to prosecute them unless they were doing something really wrong.

Excellent point. Many laws (and accompanying severe-ish penalties) were created to discourage certain behaviours. Now that it seems that "criminals" can be more easily caught, it might be time to take another look at what is prohibited (and why) as well as the punishments that exist for these behaviours.

Perpetrators of violent crime must still be pursued ruthlessly and punished to the fullest extent of the law, however.

The emergence of a global economy affects the demand for all resources. In turn, use of these natural resources is occurring on a scale that may modify the terrestrial, marine, and atmospheric environments upon which human civilization depends. The use of and competition for natural resources on the global scale, and natural threats to those resources, has the potential to impact the Nation's ability to sustain its economy, national security, quality of life, and natural environment.

So why, in the Kyoto Accord, are China and India exempted from pollution controls? Are they excused because they are considered "developing economies" and can therefore pollute as much as they want while the western countries pay industrial sin taxes?
