They could but, wait for it.......they don't have to do that because they have such a huge demand they can get their way with the cable companies. If ESPN pulls their channels from Verizon it will cost Verizon a HUGE amount of subscribers. There are lots, and I mean a lot, of people that watch almost nothing but ESPN. I fucking hate the Kardashians to the point I almost break the button on the remote anytime the cunts come on my TV getting rid of them but even I am not stupid enough to think that they aren't hugely popular. Just because you hate something means nothing to anyone but you.
It's called a package dummy. They package a bunch of channels together and sell them to viewers. If you buy a package then you bought all of it and if you don't want part of it you still bought it if you bought the package. Cable companies have been doing this since at least the early 80's when I first got cable. I remember bitching about a bunch of bullshit channels to COX asking if I could get rid of them and basically the answer was "it's all or nothing." If you don't want the package don't get it. If you want something in it then you'll just have to pay up. Quit whining. It's totally legal.
They don't really need you though. They have millions of people willing to pay and don't mind if you watch the grass grow. Personally I find most television is less intellectually challenging than watching the grass grow. Sadly I allowed myself to become addicted to Game of Thrones and then I got my wife hooked on it as well.
For every person like you there are 10 that only have TV to watch sports. ESPN has a huge viewership and leveraged that into contracts with Verizon. ESPN is usually sold with an upgraded package on cable and satellite services. Usually these packages carry a lot of more popular channels and bring a bigger price that reflects their perceived value. I currently have Direct TV ultimate plus the HBO and other premium movie channels. I watch 3 TV shows a week plus a lot of concerts and music videos. Occasionally I might watch a cooking show or a show on History Channel or some other feature. My wife watches Bravo which I loathe and despise and A&E and some other "reality" heavy stuff. We're all over the place and to give up any tier is to lose something one of us likes to watch thus I pay too much money because I get 300 channels neither of us will ever watch. That's the way it is. HBO though is going away as soon as Game of Thrones finishes this year. 50 bucks a month for 98% crap.
What they really need is lights that come on in the rain for all the people that either don't know to turn them on or forget. I'm tired of grey/silver cars suddenly appearing out of a driving rain almost on top of me. Turn the damn lights on! Maybe they could also get them to come on at dusk and in parking garages and tunnels.
Really, I've gotten good at adjusting the rear view mirror so it beams directly back at the car behind me. If I'm too slow then fucking go around. If you're in that big a hurry, buy a hot car that can pass anything but a gas station and get the fuck on down the road. Leave me be.
Around here they've largely eliminated drunk driving except for the extremely hardcore idiots. Draconian fines, suspended licenses and jail times have gotten everyone with any clue at all to not drive if they've had even one beer. Most parties have designated drivers and the ones that know they'll drink too much mostly just leave the car home. There is no excuse for an adult driving a car while intoxicated.
My Dad is an 89 year old WWII vet who is so conservative he makes John Boehner look like a member of the ACLU and HE approves of Snowden. He calls him a hero.
You can't legislate it away though. That's not the job of the government and it wastes resources in a futile effort. Everyone clearly saw what kind of hell Prohibition caused so I fail to understand why they continue to repeat that mistake. You get rid of Pot the same way you get rid of cigarettes. Change the culture and make it uncool and ostracize those who partake. It's something society has to do not the government and no matter what you do there will always be a fringe that wont stop no matter what. This insanity of using the power of government to do things that government really can't do has to stop.
You really think it's changing for the better? I look at some things in the last 50 or 60 years and see improvements. Then I look at the way government has grown incredibly huge and intrudes into every part of our lives and wonder if the bad doesn't outweigh the good. For the improvements in civil rights I am happy but most of the other improvements are worrying to say the least. When I was young it seemed Vietnam would never end and now we have the anti-terror war.
Maybe California could just use less water. Something has to give. Alfalfa, Cattle, Almonds, whatever, something is going to have to be sacrificed. There just isn't enough water and if it doesn't rain more something has to go. 30 billion in desalination plants and you'll have a few more drops of prohibitively expensive water and all kinds of ecological problems.
Atlanta is a water issue. That many people living piled on top of each other always strains resources. The EPA stays in Atlanta's ass as well because all the filth accumulated when over a million people live stacked on top of each other often ends up in the rivers and streams. Atlanta has grown so damn fast and with such piss poor planning that there are all kinds of problems to deal with. Still it's not as bad as the catastrophe coming at California.
The ones with the drive and motivation generally exploit the genius of the highly intelligent. Knowledge is a tool but it takes someone who knows how to use that tool.
You do know he'd been talking about this stunt for weeks don't you? He's been telling all kinds of people what he was going to do. They had a report in the Miami press about it before he did it and then......he did it. WTF??? This shows you how fucking stupid Al Qaeda and ISIS are. If a simple minded fucker in a letter carrier's jacket can fly over the fence at the White House and the terrorists can't, then evidently the fucking terrorists are more incompetent than the White House security team. Thank God for that.
I can't believe no one shot him as he came over the fence. What the fuck is wrong with White House security? We shouldn't need a trial if they'd plugged him like they should have. Now they'll spend 50 million dollars on a media circus and then the taxpayers will get to keep his ass up for 4 years.
The judges in my county ban people from entering the county a lot. It's one of their favorite things to do. Basically it keeps us from having to keep them up in jail. They get probation and a "get the hell out and stay out" order. If they come back they stuff them in jail to do their sentence. Works like a charm, they move on up the road and become someone else problem.
"Microsoft alleges that Google's anti-competitive practices include stopping Bing from indexing content on Google-owned YouTube; blocking Microsoft Windows smartphones from "operating properly" with YouTube; blocking access to content owned by book publishers; and limiting the flow of ad campaign information back to advertisers, making it more expensive to run ads with rivals."
The kinds of actions that Microsoft has been doing for almost 3 decades and still does today. Yes, MS is an expert on dirty competition and using it's monopolistic position to squash any sort of competition. I can't really defend Google but I have to say I'm absolutely flabbergasted at the nerve MS has to accuse Google of anything. It's like Charles Manson accusing Aaron Hernandez of murder. The Gall.

They are attacking him for attacking people that hated America. It's now fashionable to hate America. Get with the times.

Thanks for the links. That's a fabulous documentary. I wish I had mod points.

Reminds me of a quote, "In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king."

Like no one knew?
Then why didn't they shoot his ass out of the sky? A 12 Gauge pump shotgun would have sufficed.

Maybe even their own country.

Redundancy in government. It's a common theme.
