  1. Re: $30 on Examining Costs and Prices For California's High-Speed Rail Project · · Score: 1

They didn't care how many workers died building the transcontinental rail. There was no OSHA, no EEO, no Fair Labor Standards Act, no such thing as worker's compensation for injuries. Yeah, it was a simpler time. A little rough on the help though. Then there is the EPA, etc.

  2. I love the idea of rail. It's the actual implementation that so often sucks though.

  3. Don't be such an arrogant prick. Most people know what it costs to operate a car. Aside from the purchase price there's more than gas involved. Taxes all over the place for one thing. Tires, wear and tear, oil and filters, wipers. you name it. Anyone who has owned a car for very long should have a good idea about the costs. It's all about convenience. Just like the damn 20 ounce cokes in the gas station coolers that cost damn near 2 dollars when you can buy a 2 liter bottle in a grocery store for almost half that. People pay for convenience and being able to come and go at will is worth a lot of money to most people.

You've got to realize though, that those congressmen are our constitutional representatives. They represent the power of the people in this democracy. If the CIA can get away with spying on Senate computers then that's it. They really are above the law. They can literally do any damn thing they want to. It's kind of like Julius Caesar crossing the Rubicon. The CIA director should get his dick stomped on. In fact 2 or 3 years in jail for him would do the country a world of good. If no one gets in trouble for this then you can mark it as official. The Republic is dead, all we have is a farce.

It really all depends on your purpose. I can see these used headless for all kinds of things. Low power projects will line up. If you want a PC then you can pick up one off the curb more powerful than this or the pi. I see them thrown out all the time. I picked up a core2duo laptop for 25 dollars the other day with 2 gigs of ram. The battery only lasts about 10 minutes but it works good running makulu linux. It's all according to the purpose you have.

I think that's why, despite it's obvious added costs, the iPhone thrives. It just works and that's what most people want a phone to do. My wife is still raging about her "upgrade." I told her to take it to AT&T and tell them to downgrade it back to where it was. I looked at it and it's really not that bad but all the changes are just cosmetic. Why annoy your customers with that crap?

Windows 8 isn't as universally hated as Vista was but I haven't heard anyone with much in the way of nice things to say about it. As far as Android goes my wife's Note3 got updated the other day and she's been on a constant bitch ever since. A lot of people, my wife included, don't like changes that don't have some obvious improvement. Changing the way her phone works or looks just to be doing it makes her unhappy.
