It saves me money is a valid reason. If two things cost the same and one is greener I'll buy that one. If the green option costs twice as much I'm buying the cheaper one. The CFL is, I guess, green but I buy them because they use much less power for the same lumens and they last for a really long time. If they happen to be "green" that's nice too.
He didn't stomp it but part throttle accel is what most people use anyway most of the time. When I leave a light I don't romp on it, I accelerate briskly though. The Prius was okay but it wasn't brisk.
I'm a true conservative. As such I do things that make sense to me. When I saw a CFL bulb in Lowes back in the 90's I bought one for the light in my shed. I often left the light on all night and the incandescent bulbs didn't last very long. After reading the package and seeing the projected lifetime I decided to try it. After about 6 months of surviving never being turned off I started to replace all my bulbs that burned out with CFL bulbs. I didn't do it because they were "green" but because it made sense. While I believe you are correct about many "right wingers" hating on CFL's because they are labeled green I see this behavior from lefties too. Many buy anything labeled green regardless if their is any actual valid reason to do so. Lots of people are so caught up in their obsession with political viewpoints that they lose any perspective. Just because a leftie came up with a good idea is no reason for me to reject it. By the way, that original CFL lasted 7 years.
I have no hate for EVs. I don't want one but I don't mind your buying one. I don't think the technology is really there yet. Maybe in a few years when battery tech improves I'll revisit the idea. In the meantime I like the fact that early adopters are paving the way. Thanks.
The whole argument is silly anyway. All that matters to most people is how much it costs to operate and expense to purchase. Once you add it all up it's too expensive to operate EVs. I like the idea but the reality is that EVs are still ahead of their time. The expense of battery replacement is a real deal killer too. The only thing that would make me want one is if I could charge it at work on my employer's dime.
If I have a house and don't insure it and it catches fire and burns down then no one will give me a cent. Why is it that when people don't insure their houses that get caught up in a tornado like this they are entitled to money? If they pay for these peoples losses they should pay for every single motherfucker out there that didn't buy insurance no matter where or how they lost their homes.
There ya go. At least it's made in North America then. We need to help the Mexicans out anyway what with the Cartels wearing them out and all. Let's buy some from our neighbors.
I tossed out over a hundred pounds of old computer magazines a while back. My wife was so happy. I found them all online as PDF files. What took up an entire closet now rests on a hard drive.
To find a decent pc laptop with discrete graphics is more like 1000 dollars. I've shopped them and anything that isn't junk is close to a grand. A lot cheaper than Apple but not anything like the silly 300 dollar laptop you mention. There isn't a single Apple computer with a celeron processor not to mention the crappy lowend AMD processors. The main reason there isn't is that Apple doesn't want to compete in the lowend market. People end up with a piece of shit computer after spending 6 or 7 hundred dollars that is slow as hell thanks to the crapware installed on it and hate the damn thing. They see an Apple user happily using his expensive macbook with no problems and asks how he likes it. The Apple guy of course brags about his expensive toy and guess what? Another convert. Never mind the guy could have bought a shit hot HP laptop for 1500 dollars that is better than the 1500 dollar Apple, he's now convinced Apple is better because of his experience with the shitty walmart acer. Of course to get full enjoyment from the HP he'd have had to wipe the drive and install Arch Linux but he's got no idea that option even exists. Windows 8 by itself will sell tens of thousands of expensive, overpriced Apple laptops. I wonder if the pc makers have noticed there is no crapware on Apple's computers? The dumb asses are crippling their own products.
I wish all taxes were corporate. That way all the cost of taxes would be hidden in the product cost. Then I would almost never have to pay taxes because I almost never buy anything. All the people I know who have to have the latest and greatest could thus pay my way. I like it. I have two cars, one a 98 model and a newer 01. I bought a new washer and dryer in 2010, my second set since I got married in 1980. I bought a new TV in 2011, my third in the same period. It's not that I'm cheap I just don't buy shit just to be buying something. I like the idea of those who have the money to buy new crap every other payday taking care of the taxes.
It's typical for low ranking people to have access to all kinds of classified material. I don't know if you've ever been in the service but I assume from your know it all attitude you must have at least some experience and think you're the expert. I know from my experience that low ranking enlisted are often given high access to classified material. That is the beauty of the military, everyone has a job to do and they do it regardless of rank. This idiot betrayed his country and his uniform. He is the rarity in the service. The guy that thinks his feelings or opinion on something is more important than doing his duty. Yes the oath is to the Constitution. Being given orders to rape or murder or even torture is illegal and should be disobeyed. Making a decision on what material should be released to the public is hardly his to make. If you think we should let every soldier decide for himself what should be released for public viewing then you are the clueless moron.
I've been digging out books I read back in the 70's and 80's and rereading them. I'm starting to take some of them apart and scan the pages doing correction by hand. I think it's sad how many of these books are out of print and will probably never see a reprinting. I buy ebooks from baen.com and a few of the older books I have are starting to show up there as drm free ebooks. I buy all of those I can.
And my point is that while the left is all happy now they'll sing a different tune if a Republican President is ever elected again and the other side starts doing this to people like NBC and ABC that propagandize for the Left. I'm thinking though that they are pretty confident that the Republican party is through and so they wont have to worry about payback in the future. They're probably right too given that fewer and fewer Americans work for a living every year and socialism is taking over. The Republican party is going to have to change and that will cause it to split. We may have a 3 party system after all before long.

I guess everything is relative. I've ridden in one and it's not a slug but I'd never call it fast.

It's not speedy. Maybe it's not as slow as people like to joke but it is not speedy.

I hear Belize is really nice. McAffee's place is for sale I'm pretty sure.
Finally! Someone on slashdot that understands how politics in the US really works.
Most frightening words in the English language, "We're from the government and we're here to help."
We still manufacture lots of stuff. Just a few miles from where I am we've got a plant making stuff to ship to china. You'll love it.

I'll pay plenty. While not wasteful I do have to make purchases. I like a consumption tax though as those that have money to blow will pay more.

Might as well enjoy it. We're all going to die.
It's a fourth right now......
I will agree on the last sentence. A swift trial is his right and torture is definetly wrong.

I imagine the intelligence agencies will love them.

Think about it, the only way to avoid malware will be to pirate everything.
