I wonder what the per unit licensing costs would be? There's a reason linux has such a big market share in embedded apps. The area where windows shines, if at all, is desktop and that's as far away from this as you can get.
I've seen both android and iphones and used both although I own neither. I'll agree that the iphone is better, but it's not that much better. Android isn't bad it just lacks the polish that Apple is so damn good at. Still though if I bought a smartphone I'd probably go android for one reason and that's choice. I want a phone with at least a 4" screen and Apple doesn't offer that at all. I think that's a mistake on their part. Anything under 4 inches is just too tiny to actually use for very much as far as I'm concerned.
I really think the neatest thing about androin is the way it gets modded. I wonder how Ballmer and company will respond to people hacking windows phones? I bet it wont be pretty.
I don't believe much of what I hear and only about half of what I see. Regardless, I get most of my news from the local paper who quote people like AP and such wire services. I know FOX is like the boogey man 'round here but most people like you have that knee jerk reaction to anything you don't like the sound of. Sorry to let you down, sometimes even the liberal news filters have stuff you don't like to hear.
9 months is light for shooting and robbery yes, but this guy got no jail time. Both deserved stiffer sentences. Finding lost property worth 5 thousand dollars isn't like finding somebody's gymbag complete with sweaty jock strap and sneakers. In all reality though taking either one is wrong. If it's not yours why in hell would you take it? Seriously the lack of morality today is insane, no wonder we have lying crooks for leaders in government. It's a representative government, when you look at the leaders you see the people. Out for number one and screw everybody else.
Sadly most people do take his attitude. If more people had your morals then maybe it would improve a bit. I'm depressed by how many here are defending this thief.
I don't think he got in trouble for doing right unless your definition of doing right is taking something you know isn't yours and selling it. He took it, he sold it, he got caught. 3 strikes equals probation in this case, he got lucky I think. I'd like to have seen him do 30 days in the hole. Preferably with a 300 pound gay cellmate named bubba who likes to play house. But I'm am a little on the sadistic side I admit so maybe that's too harsh. I'd settle for just having him do the 30 days....kind of a meet in the middle thing ya know.
Sadly this is true. It seems politicians in general like to hold the lowest moral ground possible. This is one reason they keep exempting themselves from all the laws they possibly can.
I'm sure there's a lot more to why we're fucked than patent trolls. Maybe the fact that such a huge portion of High School graduates can barely read and write. Maybe the fact that so many teenagers drop out of school. The fact that so many teenage girls get pregnant before they turn 18. The fact that so many crack babies are born to a miserable existence each year. The list goes on and on. As disturbing as this patent crap is it's a drop in the bucket of whats wrong in the US.
It's served it's purpose which is apparently to make lawyers filthy rich. It's impossible to do business in the US without a legal warfare unit. Small businesses are so screwed because they lack the necessary lawyers to protect them from patent trolls who are armed with thousands of impossibly vague, broad and obvious patents and huge legal teams that will wait until a startup has begun making money off of something that comes under the heading of a series of these bogus patents and then it's off to East Texas to cash in.
I'm all for that. Why can't they just look at it and if they can't see where it's obviously something innovative and new just deny it. Automatic denial without clear, unambiguous, super duper, eureka style idea.
The problem is in the wording you used, "Patents are a specific assembly of specific solutions to specific problems." In general software patents are anything but specific. Even computer hardware patents seems to often be broad and vague. When you read some of this stuff it's amazing how all inclusive these things are with little to no specifics at all.
Exactly. For the price it's hard to beat Virtual Box. It works well on my linux laptop as I can run XP on a laptop in Fullscreen and it looks like it was made for it. Totally flawless. The funny thing is that a VM is the only way the laptop will run XP as it's got no drivers for XP at all. It's neat for those times I need a program that's XP only and it wont work in Wine. Wine, when it works, is really amazing but a lot of stuff need to be run in a VM.
Coolness. I'm glad to hear he turned it around. I knew people that shoplifted just for the challenge, the rush they got from it. I used to berate one friend for it telling him he was an idiot stealing junk he didn't need and could easily afford. I'd never go in a store with him.
My taxes paid for their mall? Not likely. Here we have developers that pay for that kind of stuff because they want to profit from it. My taxes probably paid for things like access roads and traffic lights there but that's it. If I found them giving developers money to build a mall they were going to own and make money from I'd go batshit.
It seems pretty simple to me. It's their store and if they don't want me taking pictures there I can either just not do it or I can tell them to kiss my ass and leave and never go back. I think it would depend on how they presented it to me. I don't know about the UK but around here there are bunches of stores. I've written a couple off my list and apparently I wasn't the only one. Both stores went tits up after a few years of treating their customers like crap, if you piss off your customers you can't stay in business long unless you're Microsoft.

I don't believe that. I think they honestly think it's okay to take something that isn't theirs. It's the way society is going lately.
I'm not a thief. I find it disturbing that you are so ready to defend one. I figure you must be one too. You like taking things that aren't yours?

That might cut down on repeat offenders.

I've been reading these "posts like yours are why slashdot is doomed" posts for about 10 years now. It's sure taking a long time to die.

Maybe he can get a patent for it?
Our leaders are very interested in this problem. They just passed some legislation to make things much worse.

I'm just curious about this. What does your college buddy do for a living nowadays?

Love that sig
All the guys I see with shovels seem to be from South of the Border. Maybe they used colored cards down there?
