  1. Well it depends where you live I guess. The Sahara could well become a rain forest.

  2. Some of the deadliest attacks are just random crazies. I don't think I care if the person that kills me is a terrorist or just some bat-shit crazy asshole. It's not gonna matter in the end.

People get nasty when you discuss global warming no matter which side you're on or even if you just ask questions. It's like discussing religion or politics.

  4. Funny thing is that the sun is getting warmer and will continue to do so. Despite this it was warmer 125,000 years ago than it is now. Much warmer. Sea level was 20 to 30 feet higher than today during that period. I don't doubt for one minute that mankind has contributed to global warming but it's impossible to know for sure exactly how much. The world has gone through many stages of warming and cooling in the past and will go through more. I find the entire subject pretty fascinating. I was recently reading about the Eemian period.

The warmest peak of the Eemian was around 125,000 years ago, when forests reached as far north as North Cape, Norway (which is now tundra) well above the Arctic Circle at 711021N 254740E. Hardwood trees such as hazel and oak grew as far north as Oulu, Finland.

At the peak of the Eemian, the Northern Hemisphere winters were generally warmer and wetter than now, though some areas were actually slightly cooler than today. The hippopotamus was distributed as far north as the rivers Rhine and Thames

I think almost anything in moderation is all right. A couple of beers, a little pot, no big deal. It's the ones who are real pot heads that seem to never go anywhere. They just stay in a fog. I work with a guy who drinks beer all the time. The only time he doesn't have a beer in his hand is when he's at work. I'm talking a case of bud lite every day. Nice guy, just always has a constant low level buzz. He's 50 now so it's only a matter of a few more years until it really starts to cost him. I can see the signs starting now. I really don't get it. I never really liked beer that much, I just drank it to get plastered. Once I had a couple of kids I just let it go and really never missed it.

There is tremendous benefit from GMO foods but to ignore all possible complications will only bring disaster down the road. High handed arrogance will only incite a more vicious backlash.

So you think trying to hire qualified minorities is the same as trying to find monkeys that can do math? Really?

  13. I'm not sure what you misunderstood about the above statement. I said nothing really that exceptional about GMO crops other than that they put control of the world food supply in the hands of a few corporations.....and that is undeniably true. Sure, I can plant a garden to feed my self. But that requires more than a 1/4 acre lot with a house. The hard reality is that agriculture is big business and those large operations will buy GMO seeds because to do otherwise puts them at a big disadvantage. Only a tiny percentage of the US population even has the capability to feed itself even if they had the know how. I'm not saying they'll do something really stupid like try to starve people to death since that would have repercussions even the very elite rich could not avoid. But if you think there wont be negative consequences you are a fool. I think there are ways to alleviate the problems associated with GMO seed but as long as people like you become hostile and accusatory at the slightest criticism or questioning then that wont happen. Trying to compare me to the bigot who I slapped down earlier that compared the challenges of hiring minorities to finding monkeys that could do math? Now I know who you are.

  18. I both agree and disagree with this statement. I agree their is no health hazard from consuming GMO foods or animals fed GMO crops. The true hazard from GMO crops lies elsewhere, in it's putting control of the world's food supply into a small number of very powerful corporations and the possible dire consequences for being able to feed the global population in case of a calamity that made those GMO seeds unavailable. The up side to GMO seeds definitely seem to outweigh the down in the short term at least.

Enterprise customers pay big money for support regardless of the OS. The only advantage there for Linux is that there is no licensing costs for the software itself. The disadvantage is that people that know Linux are usually more expensive. We've got Windows where I work and our IT support is under a constant struggle to keep it going. It's 1000% better since we got Win7 to replace Vista but still there are always problems. That's why tech support is so profitable. Strangely every day when I log in I get a nag window for windows 10. It's annoying to have to click it off every fucking time I log on. That just makes me so much happier to use Linux at home.
