The PS2 is what really brings jobs to the u.s. first of all all the retail jobs made possible from the strong sales, then all the game development jobs in the u.s.! what the xbox people has managed to do is simply pay flextronics to manufacture the console abroad, pay japanese companies 4x the cost of development to ensure temporary exclusivity of their games and utterly failed to impress the publishers to take a risk on games for the xbox hardware. What the xbox has done is to make more people buy videogame consoles, but they are choosing ps2 because they like the games better so they are really creating more NON-u.s. jobs.
Oh, and I don't think the xbox is bad or the games are bad, I just think people like to have a choice when it comes to games they can play. Microsoft has apparently decided that we only need 30 games to choose from each 6 months. Wake up and smell the effects of a monopoly.
I read about that namco las vegas shooting thing, not in a time crisis 2 preview, but in a dead to rights preview. well, of course namco gets their bribes worth if the writer find no problem with the game they are paid off to like but infact criticizes a completely different game (albeit from the same publisher).
Trolls are !mythological... They are the ones who come in to my office the day before a deadline and rewrites half my codebase _without_leaving_so_much_as_a_breadcrumb_of_eviden ce_ on my desk.
I just think that if we respect them, the trolls, they might leave us alone, and we will all have a better chance to pull off what the marketing troll promised the client in the first place.
for xbox? I mean, each mame game would have to be individually licensed in order to resell the package, not to speak of compensation to the mame developers for licensing that. And if you think there will be easy-install mod-chips for xbox anytime soon to play hacked games, I think you're wrong. Microsoft has put in a lot of effort in preventing non-M$ duplicated disks from being used on the retail system. No, that seems more likely to appear for ps2 really...
PS1 and PS2 are far more different than a desktop PC and the XBOX, two near-identical hardware setups. You're claiming microsoft had to start from scratch with their DirectX 8 exactly how?
So how exactly would I be able to program PS2 Vector Unit Processor code in Java? Does Java Gaming profile have any inline assembler macros or something?
Dude, they do pay licensing to building owners and architects, or at least ask permission for use of buildings shown in movies.

The article was about game consoles that exist today. Your arguments that PCs get faster doesn't hold for those platforms.
