We've got multiple gentoo boxes and work exclusively on macs and this is at last a very good package manager that was missing from osx.. and here is the answer:-)

just set your USE flags correctly and you won't be building 50 packages when trying to install e.g. postgres (which has optional java support, optional perl support optional python support, which in turn will build X11 because some small utility needs X11). Fink would require one package for each variant, in portage you just set
USE="-X11 -java -perl -python"
and all the optional stuff won't build.
have platform specific CFLAGS and make flags (the -j2)
you can switch to unstable (or development packages) for each package you want to install:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge apache
and it would also consider the "not stable" apache.
hopefully have a well maintained package tree. Almost all packages in fink that are recent are in the "unstable" branch
mask single versions that you don't want or that are known to be broken
if you want to get your hands "dirty" (meaning programming) you might want to look at the system configuration framework. You can hook up for notifications of the configd whenever an entry changes (e.g. an interface goes down). This is coded in C, but if you know how to write a daemon, it should be pretty easy to get those notifications and execute shell scripts.
What is the most important things in voting? Getting the correct result!
IMHO making a cross on a piece of paper is a very simple user interface so no need to improve that
Counting may need some assistance: what I know of in Germany is having an ID in form of a bar code on each sheet of paper and a software that helps the person who COUNTS the votes not who CAST the votes!
So voting machines have been proven not to have the better track record when it comes to correct results, the UI of a piece of paper and a pencil to make a cross is simple (even if you have to pay attention to the layout of the ballot). Why don't you go for improving the vote counting instead of the vote casting? (besides that this method has a proven track record in most of the developed world)
I guess you can complain as loud as you want, but there is no solution to people, trying to make money off "uneducated" customers/people. They will find a way. When founding a company in Germany, you will receive official looking letters asking you to pay a lot of euros to get listed in some register. At the 3rd look, they are scams. The bigger the company the more likely someone is going to pay these fees just be on the secure side (before your founding was illegal because you weren't listed?) I was in the same situation, and I'd like to have these companies sued, but they are stepping on a very fine, almost legal, but not 100% illegal line. And to be honest, for me it is easier to ignore and trash those scams than trying to fight someone in court.
IMHO a very good dj compilation series. Look at k7, they have full length RealAudio streams for most of their stuff. Another cool label is compostrecords (future sound of jazz stuff) Some of my favorites: (Downbeat/Lounge) Kid Loco (Jesus Life for Children under 12 inches) , Kruder & Dorfmeister (DJ Kicks), Tosca (Suzuki), Thievery Corporation (Mirror Conspiracy, DJ Kicks), Sofa Surfers (Encounters)
... an ergo keyboard won't help your wrists either. Almost 50% of the people I know don't really know how to type. (2-4 finger system).
Perhaps if you get used to typing since you were 16 your "upper limbs" are getting used to the strain on them. Or do the tennis stars get a "tennis arm"?
Hi,
I like how omnigroup lets you try out their software. No registration, instant download, you can get a trial version as often as you like (its only valid for one day). Look at their store to see what I mean.
Totally hassle free. If you need the software, you'll buy it (eventually).
