You must be dumb. My neighbour is a teacher for
maths, and she is not totally a geeg with computers. She runs Linux. And guess what - she uses LaTeX too. You just need to have a will to use something else than Micro$oft. This kind of thing happens when you can't afford it (M$) and you need to do stuff...
I can do all I want with my Linux box. This weekend I am going to try new video-editing stuff. I bet it is going to work better than the M$ junk...

Well, taken that 10 light years is equal to 94.608e+15 meters (94.608e12 km), then you have a pretty far way to go. The signal transmitted from the distant planet was, let us assume 10 kW, which is a lot. But let us assume they have a foggy atmosphere and need this to get everybody signal (OK, let us assume as well they dont have cable...). They are transmitting isotropically and we have a 40 dB gain antenna looking into the skies (not too shabby). Then the signal power received on earth would be Pr = Pt*Gt*Gr*(Lambda)^2/(4*pi*R)^2. Substituting these, (Pt = 10000, Gt = 1, Gr = 10000, Lambda = 3e8/500e6 assuming a 500MHz transmission, R = the big number), Pt = 2.5470e-029 Watt. You can only detect this kind of power in Startrek Movies...

I checked this on my machine. I am no expert here, but it seems to work as well. Oh, even my TV-app. I can record too. Oh, and play back DivX movies (and ASF, and all those other crappy M$ proprietory stuff - maybe I shouldn't have said proprietory...) Oh, I can print too and my TeX looks great - nice editor! And I have a file manager. And funky ass games.. I think you people get the point. Check out a distro before you nail it down! Linux Altimately Rules!

I am not usually a critic, but Bla,Bla,Bla. I have found that there are a few people who would listen to reasoning about Linux. Linux is nothing more difficult to use than Windoze - People are just used to what is forced down them throats. They are "stupid" for not checking out the alternatives. I once was a Windoze user too. I didn't know better. Now I can't stand Windoze at all. It totally sucks, and is a pain in the arse to use!
