  1. COST-OF-FAILURE is missing from the calculation on Lifecycle Energy Costs of LED, CFL Bulbs Calculated · · Score: 1

25 incandescents = 2.5 CFLs = 1 LEDs - why are people only talking about how great that is? Where the evaluation of the impact on cost-of-failure (25 times higher for LEDs). To make an informed decision, cost of failure needs to be part of the equation. What the probability blubs are dead-on-arrival? what's the probability they stop functioning optimally/at all after 500 hours? 1.000 hours? 5.000? 10.000? Without knowing the answers to the above questions (which has huge impacts on the final cost of the product in the life cycle of the product), the attractiveness of LEDs cannot be correctly I assessed. AND, unless LEDs are 99.9999% reliable, LEDs are still an unattractive option financially, unless you get product-lifetime guarantees with free replacements with your purchase. Environmentally they seem like a good option (dependent on reliability vs. alternatives)

starting this coming monday, danish TV station, TV2, will announce 250movies for download on their widely successful www.sputnik.dk TV2 station. Prices pr movie will likely be around $6, which is what is costs to rent a movie in Blockbuster here. They will add 250 movies each year until 2010 (obviously, this will likely change, but that is what they're currently saying). The movies will be streamed in in WMV format.

Danish television station, TV2, has been doing this for the past year or so. For rougly $80 a year, you can watch everything that TV2 has produced themselves. Works without a hitch. Requires a 2Mbit connection for full-screen watching. Tjek it out at http://sputnik.dk (in Danish, but you should be able to get the idea even though you don't speak Danish)

I simply don't understand why any firm would stoop to this? I mean, the problem could disappear if they just checked the referer to the site and if refering page does not equal *orbitz.com*, then take them to the front page. Problem solved, without being publicly critized as here on slashdot for being "a bad guy".

I work for a large corporation where we have 2000 PCs and our users are of the "heavy/thick" kind :) Now we all of a sudden started having problems with people installing hotbar (it's recommended in the emails they send). We don't know how this is possible as we have limited the installing of programs on the users computers (policies). BUT luckily it can easily be removed, but there's a catch. Their homepage has an uninstaller, but the CATCH is that to access the page where it's at, you have to have hotbar installed...tsk tsk... But after running the uninstaller, it's effectively removed. and YES, I have kept the uninstaller I downloaded when I had hotbar installed, and use it regulary on users computers :(

ahh c'mon..you obviously haven't tried LimeWire recently. It's a solid program that crossplatform, which counts way up for me. It doesn't crash and finds things just fine (as does Shareaza). And LimeWire is open source (just look at FreeWirep2p.com to see someone take advantage of it). still, I do use Shareaza from time to time, because I like the interface (kazaa-like).

I can't believe that people get disorders simply because of using a mouse or a keyboard everday. I sit in front of a computer, at least 5 hours a day. In peak periods it's more like 10 hours, and I've done this for years, and it hasn't had any sideeffects. I use a normal keyboard and a normal microsoft mouse. and this, eventhough I have hypermobile joints!!!
I can only urge people to make sure they take breaks and relax as they sit in front of the computer...maybe take up smoking (for the breakes you get during the day..hehe..) MOJN!
