  1. Re:Make it even cheaper on Homebrewed LCD Projectors · · Score: 1

How many lumens does each led lamp put out? And how much are they apiece? I can get a high output automotive headlight for $10... AFAIK, it would take at least 10 white LED's, probably more, and since they're a fairly new technology, I'd guess that they aren't exactly cheap cheap...

  2. Make it even cheaper on Homebrewed LCD Projectors · · Score: 2, Informative

I don't know where the first component could be found, but I could probably make a working model for around $200...

1: 6mmx7mm LCD screen (don't know if they can be made that small with decent resolution for a reasonable price)

    2: Beseler 67 Photo enlarger

3: Bank of 4-8 halogen lights (or a single car headlight?)

4: Maybe a lens to focus the bank of lights

The correct wiring and such to make all of it work. The Beseler will already have the correct lens for focusing a screen of that size, and if you replace the standard enlarger lamp with something like a couple of car headlamps or something, you can probably squeeze out enough light (with a lot of life to the lamp too) to get a decent display in a dimly lit room...

Approximate cost (given a good day on ebay): $200

  3. The unfortunate thing... on Fighting Back Against EULAs · · Score: 1

is that there are not enough people who care about it to make a difference. Even if everyone who read slashdot + everyone who uses Linux + everyone who hates Microsoft all did the exact thing that is being proposed here... refusing to accept EULA's and such, there would still be the vast majority of lemmings in this country that would continue clicking "I agree" and would not do anything to put a stop to it. This country is run by large companies and populated by lemmings and the few of us individuals that have minds of our own are not going to make any kind of a difference by normal means. The only way to invalidate EULA's would be for someone to get sued over it and set a legal precedence, but that's not going to happen because the people that have the money to pull that off are either lemmings, big companies, or owned by one of the two and don't want to displease either. The best way to slip through the fingers of the EULA is to go Open Source... that's not practical, though. Open Source is getting there, but at the moment, Linux IS NOT a desktop OS. There are windowing environments for it, there are applications for it, but until MAJOR software vendors (Adobe, Symantec, Microsoft) start developing their software to work on Linux as well as Windows, Linux will NEVER be a desktop OS. Additionally, until someone starts making Linux about 10,000,000 times easier to set up than it is, the majority of the lemmings in the US won't want to touch it, because that might mean they have to actually learn something! My solution? Piracy. It's illegal, it's immoral, and it's the only way to avoid the EULA completely. I don't recommend it, and I will never admit to actually doing it, but it is the one clear way to avoid the EULA.

eh...... that's a good question... I'll have to get back to you on that one! At least you're serving a purpose. Playing everquest all day serves no other purpose than to waste internet bandwidth, and waste electricity. Two things that the U.S. is slowly but surely becoming short on... Math on the other hand... seems unproductive from the outside, but if it weren't for you guys, the complex shit that makes computers work wouldn't happen (can you tell I'm a part time geek?)

  5. Downright Dumb on Suing Sony for Everquest Related Suicide? · · Score: 1, Troll

Ok... I have to agree with those people that have had the common sense to realise that all these lawsuits are downright dumb. I mean really, anything can cause a health problem, or even kill you. I choked on a Whopper earlier. Does that mean I should sue Hershey for making a product that someone could potentially choke on? NO! I opened that box of whoppers knowing that they are not the largest of foods and that it is possible to choke on a whopper. So, with this jackass kid. I'm sorry he's dead... no, wait, I'm not sorry he's dead. He was the one that was dumb enough to sit in front of a computer screen being completely unproductive 12 hours a day. I won't say that he deserved to die, but geez, whatever happened to natural selection? The good news is that now this jackass won't be procreating. Warning labels are one of the biggest kinks in evolution that there is. If there had been warning labels back in the days of the dinosaurs, we might not be here today. "Warning: Big meteor might hit earth, live underground" eh... Fact is, know what you're getting into. Everyone is responsible for their own actions, and no one should be punished unless they DIRECTLY caused harm to another person or business entity. Sony did not put a gun up to this kid's head, in fact, Sony didn't even suggest that the kid think about suicide. This kid was a product of natural selection, pure and simple. He didn't have what it took to procreate, so he didn't procreate.
