Could those tracks by any chance be discovered by whom they were made? If they're not copyrighted, righteous move would be to distribute them. That could lead to discovery of motive(s) for stealing that particular unit.

I have been using the more interactive way to keep the cat walking on keyboard when I'm doing something with computer: Laser pointer pointed at the wall would do magic, espeacially when it's pointed towards the corner adjacent to the ceiling where our feline friend can not reach it from..;)
