Also, you're completely misunderstanding the problem with immigration. It's refugees. People who didn't immigrate here, they were forced here on threat of death. Several kickstarters (Mighty Number 9 being the most prominent) put our pretty crappy product and the resources needed to develop for that beast of a console were part of it. 90s arcade racer ended up dying on the vine.
Nintendo patents every one of their console's media. IIRC even the WII is a slightly off kilter DVD. That way they can maintain control of software distribution using the patent system. Otherwise they run the risk of folks publishing unlicensed games. Normally it wouldn't be worth the effort but Nintendo has been just awful to all of their partners since pretty much day one. The tales of them screwing over people would helped them build their empire are legendary and the industry littered with their corpses. So at this point you can expect a few folks to do it just out of spite.

I think it's their economy. It's entirely based on a single resource, oil. That means you end up with a top/down oligarchy built around that oil and a ton of rather nasty policies needed by those at the top to stay at the top.
I suppose you could argue they were like this before the oil money, but they were also insanely poor before that, and if you look at just about any really poor, agrarian society woman are treated as property. That's got nothing to do with culture and everything to do with giving men a reason to stick around once the sex is over. A woman and her children were your property, so taking care of them and raising them was desirable.
If you want to break that system down and replace it with the emotional benefits of marriage and child rearing you need to take care of your working class and pay them enough they can get emotional satisfaction from the system. Otherwise it breaks down when men can't afford to hold a family together and lack attachment to the family unit as property.

An intensely conservative one focused on staying the course. The middle class didn't want to hear that because, well, the only middle class people left are in their 40s and 50s and they watched their kids grow up as a lost generation.
