I think the only MySQL specific function is the insert ID function (can't remember what it is). And PEAR is what I'm talking about not liking. It shouldn't have to be a library. PHP should have ONE database access function that works like PEAR. Especially with some of our commercial PHP apps which are "compiled" using the Zend optimizer, we can't change the source.
The thing I would really like to see is a way to in a fool proof way, move databases from MySQL to Postgres and have all of our PHP scripts (not custom, some commercial, some custom, and none with time for us to go and find every little change required) just work.
That's one thing I LOVED about Tango (now WiTango). It was a RAD web app development system that for the most part was 100% database agnostic. I know many others are too, but PHP is my favorite as a language. And I know if all the scripts we used would be written to use different libs they would be too, but they aren't and I think frankly this should've been a language feature, not a library necessity.
I'd love an actual PHP API module that I could use which I could do a 100% search/replace for that would let me use Postgres or MySQL without any code changes.
Widely accepted by concpiracy kooks it seems. From what I've read, most modern submariners and even recent military surface navymen have shot holes through the Shkval/Kursk theory.
Why mod the parent down? He's right. If you truly believe in science, you'll research this and find out that all of our dating schemes are based on assumptions that we keep having to redefine because we find they are wrong every 10-20 years.
All we know is - its old. Everytime somebody finds something that goes against the pillars of billions of years, its treated as an abnormality. Fact is - our great scientists that guzzle hundreds of millions of dollars for research based on assumptions don't know jack and are 100x worse than the Bush administration for cronyism. If only a tenth of the money spent on this junk would be spent on cures for cancer, alzhiemers, and other diseases - we'd probably be far more along and far more knowledgeable about ourselves.
I used to use Mulberry as it was frankly the fastest and best IMAP client ever. Even today Thunderbird, Apple's Mail, and anything else just doesn't compete. Not even close.
Mulberry's biggest failing was its user interface which was too hardcore and too unweildly. I think they greatly improved this in the end, but by then it was too late.
I used Mulberry for many years. Sadly the last time was also several years ago.
Isn't 2 billion vs 2.4 billion still not anywhere near your 1/10th the cost statement? And if the total cost is $11 billion - its still $11 billion total. Doesn't matter if its interest or not. Finally, I don't trust estimates from any government entity for anything. Its why I prefer private financing, private building. When it comes directly out of your pocket or the corporation's pocket - the estimates are far better and the cost overruns far less. Government never really cares about what something costs. They can always tax people more.
I think the subway system of New York City is incredible. As a prior resident, the public transportation system of NYC should be copied anywhere it can be. I now live in Austin and I know rail isn't feasible here, but we do use busses heavily. It was the first time since leaving NY that I used public transportation again as it was incredibly fast for getting anywhere I wanted to go in the city.
Actually I know Martin and he isn't a marketing guy. He's a developer. Second, as a developer myself I know how annoying and frustrating it can be to constantly be busting one's butt and just getting flak for not having it done yesterday.
Seriously - all he was saying was that they were working on supporting it. They have an import filter in beta. That's a start. Instead of blasting them and looking like a fool yourself, try giving some kudos and suggestive comments. You know a kind word gets one back. An unkind word gets one back.
Corporate IT departments prefer working on applications, servers, and such. They abhor "help desk" duty which is what setting up drive images, desktops, and scuh.
So frankly, the IT department usually doesn't give a care what the desktop users use - its the help desk department that does.
Doing something wrong does not justify that you purchased it later.
The only moron is the one calling others who make perfectly good remarks of their own opinions a moron. Only a moron would call others names just because you don't like their ideas or opinions. Even if the written letter and spirit of the law is on their side.
The fact is that you can steal something and then pay it back later - you still stole and still would be found guilty in every single possible court in the world.
Or maybe he does realize it and its just that he WANTS to use the processor, memory, LCD, etc... for web browsing and other features that come in 2.0 and does not care to use it for homebrew.
And a "flash" won't do when you're trying to photograph nature, things far away, or a billion other scenarios.
I find in my own consumer photography I only use a flash a tiny fraction of the time and wish the lens could get more light naturally because most of the situations I want to photograph a flash won't help.
The difference is that radio leads to people buying music. P2p piracy does not. Once you have the song at its best bit-rate - what's the point in buying it? Radio is far from the best audio experience and you have no control over when it comes on.
Yeah, because that happens...hm, never. I use both OS X and Windows XP and prefer OS X, but I have to say that I've had to hard reboot my OS X machine more than my WinXP machine and the WinXP machine being my development machine has more junk on it, while I keep my OS X machine clean of ANY non-Apple kernel extensions as well as other hacks into the system (i.e. no APE).
Actually, its a PDA that has cell phone functionality built in. And for that I can mention my XDA II,IIs,IIi,III the iPaq 6350, and there are quite a few others. Interesting that they all run Pocket PCs:)
Seriously - the Pocket PC is an awesome OS for mobile devices. Palm is not so awesome, but its got an entry level ease of use that is hard to match. Both systems are good for their respective target markets.
I believe in getting the device that fits both application wise, usage wise, and personality wise for the person.
They only have a couple people working on Safari. Its been said that their internal source control system is completely incompatible with CVS. So it sounds like it was just very difficult for them to set this up. They had to make a conversion system for their stuff to CVS (they probably had one done for other projects, but that doesn't make implementation simple). They had to setup the site. Etc... For a a few developers.
So you're just making your worst case assumptions against your desires, and calling it lack of ethics.

My favorite was this one at the bottom:

I wouldn't get into a plane controlled by either Linux or Windows. Neither are reliable enough.

I don't think that makes any sense, frankly.

It clusters and can do a 50,000 email clients on a fairly inexpensive server easily.
I play HL2 pretty often without an internet connection. No idea why everyone else can't do it.
So here's my question - has anyone written a patch for MySQL's source that us Mac users can apply and recompile to make it faster?
And you do remember that that quote is a falsehood spread by unlikely people as yourself, right? :)

And faster games possibly since game ports are mostly Carbon/C/C++.

I hate that standard. I refuse to follow it. It makes it so much harder to read.
I much prefer

Actually, this is for their Maps service which is 99% their content. They own the map data...

And nobody is suing ThinkSecret et al for that. They are suing to get the names of the sources who were the ones who broke their legal agreement.
