Perhaps the judge merely meant/intended by law that games should not explicitly get free speech protection just because they are games. The 4 games listed are pretty thin on plot, storyline and certain types of artistry. The artistry that is shown isn't speech so much as trademarkable/copyrightable "feel" and characters. He also might believe simply that the speech of games is irrelevant to *his case*. After all, people are free to film porn, but are not free to display it on network TV (in america) or even sell it to minors (in america). IMO I hope this is struck down with great prejudice by higher courts, as IMO the above mentioned limiting vs minors does as much harm as help and it would be foolish to carry that to more genres.
Who picked the games for the court to review? Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil? How about Final Fantasy X (or just about any other RPG)? Black and White and Medal of Honor were mentioned in the review, but there are tons of games with a lot more content than Mortal Kombat.
Does anybody know where you might find those case LEDs (the ones with the pair of wires and the motherboard connector) for sale without having to buy the whole case (or a lot of 10,000)? I looked forever for those (I have a case with a few ATA cards in it and I wanted to connect up the LEDs to so I can see which chains are busy and what card is causing the occasional problems).
You'd think those LEDs would be everywhere, but so far all the ones I've managed to find have been scrounged from old cases. Even Radio Shack doesn't carry them (and I even looked through the catalog).
I managed to get the first 3 pages up before it conked out. Basically it's a mostly standard case mod, but he took a piece of plexiglas and melted it either over something or by cutting a hole in something and letting it sag down through it while warm. (Hadn't gotten to his description, just the pictures.) A neat idea, but nothing totally amazing. That said, I very well may take this new concept into consideration when I attempt my first real mod this summer. Try it again later when it's less slashdotted if you're into case mods. Otherwise, just suffice it to say that he made a little dome out of plexiglas

There are disclaimers and warnings all over the place about injuring yourself while attempting this mod, so have fun but don't bitch if you lose a thumb;)

And over the printer's lifetime, looking at the OEM costs for some of these ink-jet cartridges, you're going to spend on ink several times what you spent on the printer. Think about what the automobile market would be like if you had to buy your oil, gasoline, tires, and every other consumable or replacement component for your car from the company that made your car. That's what the printer manufacturers want.
Several companies tried, back when the high-resolution ink-jet printers were first coming out, to achieve that kind of control over the other fungible supply for printers -- paper. They brought out special ink-jet paper 'specially designed for high-resolution printing' and ran ad campaigns suggesting that you would be producing sub-standard printouts if you used non-OEM paper. That lasted until the big paper manufacturers ramped up to produce the same products, and unlike ink cartridges, there was no way for the printer manufacturers to put in mechanisms to force consumers to use OEM paper.

I think that's what this is trying to avoid. The whole problem with National Id cards is what you just described.
Biometric encoding would eliminate this because you could easily match a peron to an id card.
My problem with this kind of stuff is just the security involved. I'm a System Administrator and so I know first hand how lazy people can be when it comes to security. People always choose convenience over security. No matter what. And the U.S government is no exception.
A couple small examples:
In the gulf war a U.S Navy ship was compromised and e-mail was leaked.
I don't want to trust every single piece of information that's very personal to an irresponsible government that doesn't take the security of it's network seriously. Because most likely everyone's information will be stored in a single database that government officials can use to lookup your information. It's already happening it's just not as centralized as they want it to be.
I guess the idea is that if you get pulled over the cop will take a hand or retinal scan, go to his cruiser and get every single piece of information he could possibly need to know about you from a central database.
That scares because of both security and privacy concerns that I have.
well, how would your identity be stolen? they are not stealing your eye, they are stealing a card with your retinal scan on the back. i imagine that what the retinal scan is for is that you present your card, then put your face to a retinal scanner to make sure that the card is not a fake and you say who you are. now i don't like this idea, but i do feel that getting ahold of somebody's card with a retianl scan stored on the chip is no more risky than getting thier traditional id card stolen, i don't understand what the shift key is for.

After all, with the current US population somewhere in the neighborhood of 270+ million (I'm too lazy to look up a more accurate estimate) they think they can create and implement this system for just over $1 per citizen? Seems a little conservative to me.
A national ID card is a way to restrict freedom. Unlike searches at the airport, you don't gain security for the trade-off. Instead you get to be treated like a criminal when you've done nothing wrong. Would it have stopped any act of terrorism? No. Would it have ever stopped anything? I seriously doubt it.
