Honestly I don't remember the exact context of this statement. I do remember that it took place in one of the previous articles in regards to the lack of true high speed access to the home.
The last mile is hugely expensive, but its more economically feasible if half your population lives in practically the same last mile instead of scattered all over the country side like the US.
My memory is a little vague here, but IRC, in Japan, there is a govermental plan to reach a certain coverage (20% ?) of fibre-to-the-home to a certain date (2005?).
Ah, but as pointed out here before by others, Japan has a much higher population density than the US. This means that it is much easier and cheaper to reach a higher percentage of the population with fewer fiber runs.
Right, paint a broad stroke across the entire population because a few people don't understand what they are doing. Maybe a better solution would be to simply remove these people from the service if they can't provide a small amount of responsibility for the privaleges they have been given.
Dark Age of Camelot uses XML to display the character stats. Here is the display page and here is the XML source. This page explains how they do it. Very nifty for making guild web pages using their data.
Why is this flamebait? In my opinion also, this is exactly the reason for download caps. In some form or another, the ISP is paying for the bandwith caused by their customers. Why wouldn't they want to get rid of their high cost/maintenance customers and replace them with multiple lower cost customers?
Actually I have had very good success with Dell rebates. One was processed in 3 weeks. They have a website where you can check the status. My other rebate did hit a snag. Dell printed my invoice with the wrong date and caused it to be denied by the rebate processor. After a few emails to dell, they credited my credit card the proper amount and even pro-rated back the appropriate amount of tax.
Now Microsoft has to give me permission to put a different OS on my box?
No, when you purchase a computer with OEM Windows XP Pro, you are automatically granted a license for Windows 2000 Pro.
This is good for businesses as we can order our computers with Windows XP Pro and install Windows 2000 Pro on them. In the future if we ever decide to upgrade to XP Pro on the desktop, it is a "free" upgrade instead of having to purchase an upgrade license.
This is where I disagree. When you buy a cd, you don't own the song. You only own the cd it came printed on. You possess a license to listen to the song. You can't resell the song, because you don't own it. You can't reproduce the song for distribution, because you don't own the the license that grants you these rights.
They only search for images that copyright holders have contracted them to look for. I highly doubt any kiddie pr0n vendors have contacted them for this service since it is illegal to produce this material in the first place. Maybe you meant to post this in the previous news item.
I was always taught to use up the biggest coins first, which would be 3 quarters, a nickle, and 3 pennies. See, one less coin in your pocket now. But I'm just nitpicking....carry on now.
Absolutely its a two way street. But I view this as more of a chicken-egg situation as to who is more dependant on the other. In today's society employees are becoming a disposable resource. A company can fire you for any reason and you can quit for any reason.
Maybe its just me, but I still have a hard time understanding the argument that some people can't just quit their jobs because of family, etc. In my town I can quit my job right now and start flipping burgers for $8/hour. So I may have to work 2 shifts and give up some luxuries to pay the bills, but I always have that option as a worst case scenario.
My last comment was more tongue in cheek than anything.
I just notice that alot of people out there bitching about "greedy business" and how "the man is holding them down" have some very communist ideas in the back of their mind. They don't understand that the primary goal of a business is to make money. The only reason business is willing to pay an employee money is because that employee supposedly generates revenue greater than said employees pay + benefits.
People need to realize why they are being paid, and it isn't out of kindness from the CEO.
I agree. Most companies seem to have the policy that you can do limited personal tasks on company time. Just don't be surprised when they come up to you some day and tell you to knock it off and get back to work. Use common sense and realize what the boundries are at your particular place of employement.
The difference between your statement and reality however is that you are free to either a) ask for more money so that you are content with your job or b) quit and go find another place of employment that does a better job of providing for your interests.
Or i suppose if your just anti-capitalist in general you could do c) go buy a cabin in the mountains somewhere and live as a hermit for the rest of your life.
You are correct, I forgot about the ADA and how far reaching it has become. How it is considered constitutional is beyond me. Did it ever make it to the Supreme Court or not?
I didn't realize that it was a RIGHT to eat wherever you wanted under conditions that are suitable to you.
However, you do have the RIGHT to find another restaurant that has conditions more suitable to your health.
The burden is on YOU to eat in places that are not a danger to yourself, it is not the governments job to make everyone else change their habits for your own problems.
Now that I've bought all of these kitchen essentials and added them into my existing collection of gadgets and tools, what methods can you suggest for storing or otherwise organizing all of these utinsels.
Do you have several drawers that you just dump stuff in or do you have hooks and shelves everywhere?.
Would I be better off buying a Craftsman stackable tool chest for my kitchen instead?
If you notice in the article however it says that the console versions are coming along nicely. The EA game preview on the dvd also ends with a statement that it is coming this winter on PS2 and Game Boy Advance. Apparently that had enough warning to remove any mention of the PC version from the dvd.
Exactly. I'm sure it won't be hard to prove that it was your webtv with a virus that called 911. Since this was obviously a malicious act by a third party and not the manufacturer or end user, the third party should be held responsible.
No, you blame the person responsible for actually commiting the crime, in this case the person who wrote the virus.
If someone steals your car and damages city property, are you and Ford/Chevy/whoever held responsible or the thief?

I was just in there 2 hours ago and went through the usual name/address procedure. Did somebody forget to read the memo this morning?

Ah, but if you don't choose the sync cradle, then you get the "USB Travel Sync Cable". So save some money and still get to sync.

The original Hercules isn't around anymore. If I remember correctly they were ressurected a year or so ago and started doing ATI boards.
