You can do what you want on the web.
Its not "about" sharing information.
Its about doing what you fucking want, got it? Dont you come on here and tell me what I must do with my web access: Ill share the information I want in the way I want, and if I choose not to share any information at all, then I shall be respected for that decision.
Christ, the hyprocricy around here is laughable. "Were all for freedom, but if you dont use open source and share your information with blind people we call you names".
In my opinion, web design which makes a site inaccessible to impaired people is rude, discourteous, and even odious. It's not like disabled don't have enough problems. If you can't view it in Lynx, you're a bastard for writing it.
Excuse me, but with all due respect, youre completely wrong.
For starters, the website I run (which neither works in Lynx nor is it accessible by blind people) is solely oriented around visual arts, so no, Im not rude, discourteous or odious.
And for your information, Lynx is a terrible browser which doesnt conform to the HTML standard with any degree of accuracy - Nor does it support most of the techologies which have enriched the internet: Java, Javascript, Flash, Graphics, Animation, streaming media.
You need to get real. Calling people names because they dont go to the huge effort of making their website for both visual, blind people and text mode people is ignorant.
Yes, ofcourse, but you may not be able to fathom out what the patch does from the source. A security fix which prevents a buffer overflow could be as simple as adding or removing a typecast, which, if the kernel coders themselves didnt realise could be a security issue - Most Joe User's wont notice either...:(
Still, as a principal, it is a bit silly to disallow a text describing the change but allow the source which IS the change. Stupid law.
The way the patent system works in the US is that they (the patents people) basically grant any patent, and if you disagree with it, you are supposed to challenge it and a judge decides its validity. It is intended that in the case of questionable patents they should simply be granted and its left to a judge to invalidate it when somebody takes the issue to court.
There are numerous very fundamental differences between Hurd and Linux/*BSD.
As for rallying around Linux, that would also be a bad idea. If you know anything about software development, youll know that the progress of a project is NEVER proportional to the number of developers. Infact, often its inversely proportional.
Also, there are a range of applications for which I would not consider Linux but would consider FreeBSD ideal.
I dont think this is a wasted effort by any stretch.
The EULA (presumeably) implies that "You grant permission for software to be installed which allows you to choose products from a range of websites and have them purchsed from the Kazaa website automatically, on your behalf".
Fucking disgusting thing to do, but Im not convinced that its as clearly illegal as some people think. By aggreeing to the EULA, you agree to the installation and operation of this software and you know about its presence and function.
By definition a terrorist is someone who promotoes an ideology through the use of force and/or violence right?
What about Greenpeace, didnt they put limpet mines on a ship one time? Terrorists. Cant picture the university removing links to GreenPeace websites... The USA is supposed to be land of the free. I must say, from here, it looks like quite the opposite. You cant even link to a website unless the government approves of it.
Ofcourse its common sense.
But I *REALLY* cant picture the poster saying anything that kind had it been Windows affected by this virus. I mean really - it WOULDNT happen. Just keeping an open mind. Check the history - every Windows virus is announced with "Im glad Im using a secure OS link to debian.org" or something similar...
The fastest new GF4's will be overkill.
I can play the demo with uninterupted smooth FPS using a budget GeForce MX200 (64Mb)... This card costs £30! . The rest of my PC is P4-1700mhz/256Mb RDRAM.
Or then again, we could just convert them and be done with. After all, nobody on Slashdot has legal mp3s, and get flaming real, is the FBI going to bang you up for not paying your MP3 royalty fee?
Worrying about this is like worrying about the "DO NOT REMOVE" sticker on your flaming mattress.
Hes right though. I dont think you can "have everything". Do we want this to be a hardcore, technical OS which is therefore highly powerfull and flexible - or - do we want to dumb it down so that its configuration and use is accessible to all and therefore less powerfull.
Nobody has ever achieved both of these to any great extent in one OS. I dont think its possbile to have Linux style power with Windows style newbie-friendlieness (note: newbie friendly != user friendly).
I honestly cant believe that in this day and age people are still whining about dependencies.
Have you not heard of Debian before? Or Gentoo? Your argument is utterly invalid. I have been using Linux for nigh on 2 years and have not experienced a single dependency related problem, excluding the ones Ive helped RedHat users with on IRC!
Indeed. Your average GNU/Hurd user is probably a lot smarter than your average Apple Mac (laugh) user, but that says nothing about the quality of GNU/Hurd. Meaningless article.
The Italians are also in the news today because they stole an important (and huge) religious monument from Ethiopia when they occupied it under Mossulinis (spelling?) reign. When the Italians became civilized (/ducks) a few years later they promised to give it back... The was 50 years ago, and their government now refuses to talk to the Ethiopian government about the issue.
Heh. Yeah... And JRR Tolkiens one brain imagined with the power of those 1400 processors, plus the power of the 230 graphics artists, dedicated asset management company, production team, audio guys, actors, and so on:)
Fighters can allready tollerate huge G-Forces, the pilot is the limiting factor.
No pilot can safely pull a 15g turn, but it would be trivial to make a plane which can withstand that using modern materials.

But sound doesnt travel in the land. Nor does... electricity, radio waves, or, come to think of it anything. Jeez, what a rip.

Funny how everybody dislikes stealing when they arent the ones doing it.

4-10 hours? Thats a 60% variation. Is it 4 hours or 10 hours?
Precisely. Read the article. It says this has been known in spots and patches for years. This is just yet more evidence.
Liquid Nitrogen != Nitrous Oxide :)
Although Id like to see what happens if you atomize and spray liquid nitrogen into your engine :)
Famous story about a grocer arrested because he refused to sell fruit in metric was all over the news a year or so ago.
Worrying about this is like worrying about the "DO NOT REMOVE" sticker on your flaming mattress.
Thats like saying "MS knowingly copied the idea of multiple desktops therefore I will knowingly take all their code".
Edit:
(Atleast, not in one distrobution).

Not exactly a Mac only feature buddy!
Ive got a 486/1995 90mhz server which supports overheat signals!
