MS did port IE 5.01 to HP-UX and Solaris, including MediaPlayer (true that they don't issue security updates as frequently for Windows, ie, don't hold your breath waiting for updates). I put in a request to MS to port IE to Linux. I prefer IE over Netscape (fewer crashes on Windows, Solaris). On Linux, Netscape crashes too much for me. IE is my preferred browser on my SPARCStation at home, now if I just had IE for Linux, I would be a happy camper.

AMD at one time had a bit-slice microprocessor, the 2900 and 29000 line, that allowed people to design their own instruction set. But that was back in the 80's and early 90's. It also involved a bunch of supporting logic to build a functioning system that required the use of a soldering gun to build a prototype.

  4. False Positives... on TV People Meter: Monitoring What You Watch · · Score: 1

If I were wearing this device, I wouldn't want Arbitron recording what I hear in traffic as a positive vote for any of these mega-watt car stereos going "BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!" Now, if that car went "KA-BOOM!", that would be entertainment value! So, if this became widespread, different stations would rig up these "blasters" in cars, vans, trucks, to drive around in traffice and annoy the other drivers, just to pump up their ratings.
When watching TV, I tend to use the commercials to use the bathroom or get something from the kitchen or frig. With the SonicBlue court decision, am I stealing programming by not watching commercials? AdCritic was fun to watch while it existed; it only "aired" funny, or interesting commercials. My wife will flip to another channel and forget to flip back to the original.
Unfortunately, creativity with commercials is non-existant with regular programming.

I like the features of IE 5.0 on my Windows NT and 2000 boxes, so I installed IE 5.0 on my Solaris box.

I got so tired of Netscape 'memory fault - core dumped' on my Linux box, that I called Microsoft and requested that they port IE to Linux.

At a former employer, Netscape was the corporate default, but one of the newer Netscape 4.X releases was so buggy that it was impossible to use and debug web pages that we ended up going back to the prior release.
