No support from NASA? Is this an example of the growing rift between US and Europa that people have been talking about since the presidential inauguration? Or have I misunderstood things?

I've written to my bank but the technical support will only answer crap like "There are no plans no support Netscape 6 yet". They are in fact clueless and why should support staff with low wage really care?

My bank has a script to detect what browser you use if it's not the one they recommend, you're simply transferred to Microsoft's download page.

  8. What? people who don't have Microsoft Windows??? on Online Banking And Browser Support · · Score: 1

My primary online bank, Swedish Postgirot, "recommends" only IE. Since they also have a script to lock out users with other browsers, the recommendation could be like something from The Godfather. I complained to their support and one of their staff suggested that linux users could also use Opera (eg. masquerading as IE). I asked why I couldn't use a browser that is safe instead of IE, no answer so far. My other oline bank, Hongkong-Shanghai Bank Corporation will gladly admit anything and anyone.

There is another reason not to have an OEM license. My sony laptop came with Win ME, but it is setup so it will only install on this particular computer, not on any other. The day I sell/trash my laptop the OEM license will be useless - I will have to pay for a new license again.

  11. Dell's advertising on Dell No Longer Selling Systems w/o Microsoft OS · · Score: 1

All of us must have seen Dell's advertising, "Only you know what kind of computer you like", "Only you know what's good for you" and so on. I knew they were lying when I tried to tailorbuild a computer on their website a few months ago and it wasn't possible not to include a MS OS.

I sent their sales manager an email in March asking why and he replied that they had an agreement with MS to include their OS in all computers shipped. This is ofcourse monopoly power but it is also impractical: I have already paid for Windows 98 and Windows ME, now when I buy a new computer I must pay for a new license again.

Well, I'm happy that MP3 sharing is a non-issue in Europe. And why should it, when most users download american music and american record companies lose money? For now, Swedish law give me the right to share music with my friends and I don't see that changing very soon.

I hope this means that more people on the internet will use a browser that complies to the standards. How much longer will it go on with web designers being forced to think of what browser the users have?

My brother has a web site than can only be used with IE. So when I asked him what happened with surfers surfing with their fridge he just stared at me. He thought the idea ludicrous but nowadays you don't need a desktop computer to browse.

I don't like those home pages that say: Best seen with this or that browser, go here to download it. Do they really think that people will download 10-15 MB just to see their lousy homepage?
