  1. Re:mod parent DOWN on Lord British Returns To Ultima Online · · Score: 2, Informative

    oops

I didnt mean the parent. I ment the post with the link. And I had 2 points. The second was that the page was so old that 2 out of the 3 linked items were broken.
If you are going to post something for some quick Karma, at least point to a useful page.

    Like this one

One that has pictures and the official response and the interview without broken links.
All it took was a 2 second google search.

  2. mod parent DOWN on Lord British Returns To Ultima Online · · Score: -1, Flamebait

First of all, this is very old news (what is it 6 or 7 years old now?) and not really related this new development.

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, 2 out of the 3 links on the page that you linked to do not work.

  3. Nail in the coffin or small hitch? on Shadowbane Servers Hacked, Chaos Ensues · · Score: 3, Insightful

It seems like they will roll the server time back a few hours, so things will go back to the way they were before the carnage. However, I cannot recall anything like this ever happening in any other MMRPG.

Other MMRPGs have had buggy starts, but this is over the top. Is this just a natural result of the fiercely competitive guild wars in the game? In a game where player cities rise and fall, wasn't it just a matter of time before a guild went too far?

  4. It's not just MMRPGs on The Lure of Heroinware · · Score: 2, Insightful
You know, we look at so called POWERGAMERS playing MMRPGs and suddenly they are addicts who need help.

But before Everquest and Ultima there were addicting games. I remember logging hours and hours with CIV1 in Highschool. In College I remember logging obscene amounts of time playing UT and chatting late into the night on ICQ.

And yes, I cut some classes. In fact, so did my roommate. He cut so many classes playing computer games he had to drop out! He even skipped an exam because he was too busy playing games on his computer.

basically what I am saying is the problem has always been around. Before MMRPGS, these shy, anti-social people might have just read books to escape.

Heck, Simon and Garfunkel wrote about this in the 60's:

    • I am a rock

    • I am an island

      I have my books
And my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armor
      Hiding in my room
      Safe within my womb
      I touch no-one and no-one touches me

      I am a rock
      I am an island
And the rock feels no pain
      And an island never cries

  5. Its TRUE, You can get this cheap in Japan NOW on Fiber-to-the-Home Internet, TV, Phone in One Box · · Score: 2, Informative
In the MID 90's the Japanese gov started the Fiber to the home (FTTH) with the goal of having 10 million homes equipped with fiber by 2005.

    What does that mean?
Well if you live in a major city, you can sign up for B Flet, NTT's fiber service.

If you can read Japanese, check out NTT east's site at:

    http://www.ntt-east.co.jp/flets/index_f.html

OR the NTT west site at:

    http://www.ntt-west.co.jp/ipnet/ip/bflets/

On the west site, you can clearly see what is offered, with 100 Mbps big and bold! Of course, while this is the advertised speed, the actual performance is going to be between 20 and 50 Mbps.

    They have 3 plans:

    Business plan: 100Mbps for 40,000 yen ($300) a month

    Basic plan: 100Mbps for 9,000 yen ($69) a month

    Family plan: 10Mbps for 5,000 yen ($38) a month.

While the price is good, the installation and hardware costs are high. It costs 29,000 yen to hook up the basic plan ($223).

I'm living in the boonies of Nagoya now, but I look forward to moving closer to Nagoya to take advantage of this!
