And the worst among you are those who think you can steal things who don't belong to you. And yes, it is stealing. An apt excerpt:
And yes, it is stealing. An apt excerpt [slashdot.org]:
[...] different types of stealing are covered by different laws because they differ in the details. Theft through breaking and entering: burglary. Theft from one's employer: embezzlement. Theft by committing fraud through the mail: the aptly named mail fraud. Theft by the unlawful copying of somebody else's property: copyright infringement.
Nice quote. So is it stealing because you say so or because that guy you quoted says so?
And what if I live in a country not covered by US law? Is it stealing then?
Just because something's law doesn't mean it right or that it's immoral to do what you think is the right thing. Would you have said the same thing about womens rights to vote in the past? Or the rights of minorities?
And on the whole stealing thing... it's a freaking digital copy, no on has been deprived of anything! I spend the same amount of money every year on 'stuff' regarless of how many divx movies I watched. To use a tired phrase, I vote with my dollars by not giving them to the damn RIAA/MPAA!
I briefly looked at the demo for solmetra. It didn't work (couldn't type in the edit dialog) and even still I think FCKeditor does better at being a javascript rich content editor for HTML.
Although useful, I wouldn't say either of them are a replacement for Dreamweaver.
I use a windows pc with a SVIDEO out to my tv. It works well, but it's kinda a hastle is someone else wants to use the computer.
That's why I'm putting linux on my xbox. I nearly got Xebian on there. Problem is my xboxs optical drive is nearly bit and I can't boot from the Xebian install CD. I managed to copy the iso, and mount them from emergeny-linux ala the mech assault save game exploit. But I'm kinda lost how to install xebian after I've mounted the iso on the hard drive...

Is this the street fighter 2 for nintendo cheat to allow you to play 2 of the same charater?
Or is it just that that was the only code I ever knew for a game?
I'm getting so tired of this kinda stuff by the RIAA. Maybe they could deter copyright-infringers by actually providing a comparable service. And not iTunes selling tracks for USD$0.99. I mean seriously. This seems like a ploy for the RIAA to make more money than with CDs. Now they've dispensed with any physical material, any shipping and distribution - AND they charge the same amount for a CD. Except buying from iTunes versus a regular CD I am limited to where and how I can play it. And the quality is worse, and I don't even have any liner notes.
Seriously, sueing college students is not a good business plan.
Provide a decent service and the people with money to spend on music will mostly use it. And all the students with _no_ money will still continue to download their music for free.
This ill will campaign does nothing but make people even more content to share music now that doing so is a slap in the face to the clueless and tyrannical RIAA.
Same thing happened to me with my first XBox. It stopped reading about 80% of discs I put in it. I had to buy another XBox just to get my MechAsault fix. And now, 10 months later the same thing is happening.

Thank you! You speak the truth. Why is everyone so upset about infringing on the copyrights of these big fat cats - who don't give the artists their fare share anyways.
We, the Users create the future by shaping this world. And I bet that *anything* that we end up creating would would be better for the artists creating the content and the users consuming it.
Screw the record execs!
What's the deal with this 'more readable' stuff? Python look just as readable as any language to me. We'll less readable actually - 'cause I never used it;)
He says the main reason is that he likes the way source code looks. That may seem a frivolous reason to choose one language over another. But it is not so frivolous as it sounds: when you program, you spend far more time reading code than writing it
Maybe RMS is a little fanatical - but be thankful for that. Look at all the great software his vision has provided us with. It's fine to complain and stuff, but I think he's given more to us (the little people) than anyone else (I can think of) for so little (free!).
Also, the small distiction between GPL and the PHP license (which I don't understand) may one day in the more distant future be a big deal! For one, I'm glad RMS is out there taking the hard stance with eyes to the future.
Even Javascript has some nice features if you are scripting other components (i.e. in a XUL application) but the next time I ask someone how to itterate through a hash table in Javascript, they had better not say "you don't..."
this is one way to do it, (try pasing this in you address bar):P
javascript:var o = new Object(); o.a = 'first'; o.b = 'second'; for (var att in o) { alert(att); }
For him, "the primary task of the Internet is to connect every person to every other person."
When people say stuff like this, they are only really thinking about his friends and family, or maybe some small collection of online pals.
Maybe you are, but imagine a world where you can communicate with any number of 4+ billion people instantly in any number of ways. And if you're imagining a telephone you're not getting it. I'm talking about totally new ways of communication more like the hive mind of the Star Trek borg. I think this is what he's talking about.
You're right. I am legally a criminal because I steal whatever media I want from the Internet.
But I don't consider myself a criminal for this behavior. The laws and morality are diverging here. The Internet has changed what is possible. Laws will change to refelct this. Economies will change to reflect this.
I have power to live in the world as I want. It may be legal for companies to screw me. But now we have a way to fight against a system that while giving us great freedoms has also given huge corporations a way to screw us too.
So basicly I'm saying, I 'steal' bacause I can. I screw those who have screwed me. I screw those who have not screwed me because this is the world we live in now and I'm prepared to accept the new economies advantages and disadvantages.
Also, I think the people getting screwed the biggest are the richest people and companies. Stealing from them doesn't really bother me on a moral level.

More like sending a postman to murder, by fire, an arsonist who burnt down the post office. As I see it anyway.

Do we (consumers) need to start a database to somehow screw businesses now too?

This is an awesome idea, but the graphics look kinda lame. Killer Robot DVD release Google Cache
