    the GOP defunds schools as part of their "privatize everything" plan...defund the schools, the schools don't score well on standardized tests, funding is tied to test scores, school loses funding...

    repeat cycle until all schools are privately owned

    YES...Americans are some of the smartest people on earth...Americans are actually not nearly as dumb as those late-nite TV show sketches where they interview a man-on-the-street would indicate

    i've traveled to Japan, France, Germany, and several other countries that are on par w/ our development level and there are ignorant types everywhere

    it's funding...the whole thing is based on artificial scarcity

    also: Obama can't force states to adopt a rational education policy...all he can do is tie Federal funds to certain criteria

    i agree that Common Core is reductive and that standardized tests should not determine funding levels

    all schools should get what they deserve, everything they need...we have more than enough money in our country

    which makes zero sense...why 114 schools?

    this whole game is bogus...donating "millions" while Republicans are closing schools left and right based on fictional "budget crisis"

    we could outfit every public school with everything they need and be within budget...this not a question of lack of resources

    The group tricked their way into getting the space...they didn't rent it through some kind of proper channel

    Creation Summit secured a room at the university’s business school through a student religious group, but the student group did not learn about the details of the program—or the sometimes provocative talk titles—until later, says MSU zoologist Fred Dyer.

    The group then used the University's name in all their press materials, giving them false credibility.

    It's a sham all around....this has nothing to do with academic freedom and everything to do with dirty tricks, half-truths, and manipulation from an allegedly religious group

    Had to...ahem...RTFA...but buried midway I found this gem:

    We will never have truly *autonomous* vehicles driving on the same lanes in the same traffic as regular diver vehicles.

    The problem is *not* technical in nature ultimately (now, the tech is not near sufficient, but assuming it could improve), the problem is *liability* for when something goes wrong.

    What will happen: Dedicated lanes on interstates

    Like HOV lanes, basically.

    The only way it will actually be implemented is in controlled zones where there are much fewer variables...

    To think anything else is magical thinking and not connected to reality

    but instead just have the thought in your mind and then express it with the tools you have in the language you need to speak even if they're very limited

    well said...this is excellent advice...and phrased succinctly

    we can 'force' ourselves to think in language, but our thoughts are deeper than language...it's taking the step to see that all language is a tool for communication, not inherent to our brain

    given what was described, your behavior here, and the Burners I've known, comparing to other festivals I've been to (Rainbow Gathering, Bonaroo, several others), AND other articles about Burning Man on slashdot there is no other conclusion to make

    Burning Man encourages people to act with a "superiority complex"

    It's baked-in to the event...ask anyone "What is Burning Man" and you can usually see the artificial scarcity of knowledge used as a way to demonstrate your superiority over others on full display....you mystify it to make you "cool" and have artificial superiority to "noobs"...it's all a game for your ego

    you understand you're confirming my theory with every post you type, right?

    well that's real talk...i can understand "circumstances" i suppose...it is still a dumb mistake IMHO

    as i was saying above in another comment, I've worked with hazardous construction materials...nothing like Ebola obv...but we had to wear protective gear and it got annoying

    ex: Hard Hat...some jobs require hard hats everywhere, even outdoors in the open air...it's not crazy to cheat a bit in that area...however, only an idiot would go into an area with heavy work being done above them w/o the hard hat...in fact, other workers would stop you as soon as they saw you b/c an injury on site wastes a ton of time

    there's strict rules and then common sense and the the line you don't cross...what I'm saying is, given that he was a *doctor* and *knew he was handling Ebola* it seems weird that he'd do something that would put him near that line

    i'm all for an abundance of caution...let them wear the HAZMAT stuff....

    what kills me is that I've worked with hazardous materials in a construction setting, and there's always a trade-off between being bulky safety equipment and time

    but...there is sort of a line you don't cross...like hard hats...some job sites are "Hard Hat Only" as soon as you enter the property...which is a bit silly...but you're an idiot if you are guiding a crane placing I-beams and don't have your Hard Hat on

    see what I mean?

    i just don't see why competent people can't get this right

    thanks for the response...

    my point is, that if YOU know this then the people who make the procedures must also...and therefore there already be adaptations/improvements to procedures OR if that can't happen then quarrantine

    if we know the threat exists, that's enough information to mitigate it in SOME way

    that's the problem here IMHO...
