    It's because the "community" is more like an oligarchy controlled by a very few people with their own ideas of what Linux should be.

    It's not "linux cool" to have a friendly, intuitive user interface. That might make it popular, and the elitists who control most of the Linux universe don't want that.

    There's absolutely no reason Linux can't be better than Windows or OSX, but for political reasons, I don't believe it ever will be.

    They do give you a choice. It's right on the login screen. You just select Ubuntu Classic as your default interface.

    Seriously, it takes almost zero effort. It's two mouse clicks.

    Yet, I have somehow managed to upgrade from 8 to 9 to 10 to 11 using apt-get and never had an issue with anything...

    Everyone has a different user experience, and one man's folly certainly does not indicate the product is bad.

    Failure to diagnose a disease is malpractice, so doctors are generally compelled to practice CYA medicine and diagnose anything and everything possible. This has the benefit of reducing malpractice suits against doctors, and the added benefit of giving insurance companies an excuse to raise rates on people who aren't really sick. The insurance companies win big on this approach.

    I agree with this 100%. Roads wear out based on the weight and distance traveled, not on the amount of fuel used.

    Of course, the problem with the US is that they will enact a new pound-mile tax, but not abolish the per gallon tax. After all, they'll do whatever means more money for them and less money for us.

    It still works great, and I use it every day in my job.

    I also have the m48 app for iPhone, which is a handy HP48 emulator that similarly works great when I'm out and about.

    Switching off Unity is so easy, even a brain dead earth worm could do it.

    Canonical has not "imposed" the Unity interface on anyone. They have simply made it the default, which is easy as pie to change.

    Just click your username, then at the bottom, select the Classic interface. It becomes the new default, and you are done. No more Unity.

    That is a huge leap. You cannot take one incident and use it as a broad brush with which to paint all of the players in cloud computing.

    This should read: "Clearly, human error was a major player in these two specific incidents at VMWare."

    The ToS in my ISP agreement explicitly states that I cannot open my wireless access to those who do not reside in the dwelling my service is provisioned for.

    Your ToS may have similar provisions prohibiting you from redistributing your bandwidth. ISPs are well within their rights to incorporate such requirements.

    Competition is when two vendors are selling essentially the same thing. If each of the three providers has exclusivity with a different subset of the studios, then it's three different monopolies, not competition and choice.

    Google will have an exclusive agreement with another group of studios.

    Amazon will have an exclusive agreement with yet another group.

    The result will be that you'll have to buy all three services to see all the movies you want... I can't wait.

    The increased quality of Bluray video does not justify the 4x cost difference to DVD. I can buy DVDs of decent movies at Walmart for $5-10 all day long, and the Blurays of the same movies cost $20-40 on Bluray.
